7th grade, the year 2019 to 2020, was a very interesting year. There were some incredible memories I had made with my friends however there were a few obstacles that year. This was a brand new year, a fresh new start, now I had made amazing friends and am not the new kid. This year for Encounters we actually don’t have to go to Cobb Middle School anymore instead we had Encounters at school with Mr. Skipper.
Speaking of Encounters, that was and still is one of my favorite classes including math, science, and athletics. I know it is pretty odd for someone to like math, but by liking math that is how I got one of my nicknames, “Math Nerd.” Also, I had some astounding teachers in the 7th grade. My favorite teachers were Ms. Brooks, Mr. Garza, Mr. Lira, Mr. Skipper, and Ms. Damante.
In Encounters, we had done some amazing projects. For one project we did a number burst where we picked our favorite numbers and drew out why they are our favorite number. For another project, we did Ojo de Dios or “the eye of God” where we weaved a design out of yarn on a wooden cross. Also, our main project was where we picked out an important founder with part of their name in the company. For this project, we did a research paper about their lives and how they got to their success. We also did an Art Car where it had things that represent them on it.
School was turning out great, we were having fun with projects, learning more, and we just went on Christmas break. However, an outbreak came out. During Christmas break, a new virus was discovered. It is called the Coronavirus or Covid-19. This virus caused many deaths not just in the U.S, but all around the world. Also, this led to masks needing to be worn and having to be online for school which was terrible.
Although this school year ended in a disaster, I wish I could go back to 2019 where things were normal. Also, I think I have matured more from my 7th-grade self and still have a lot of my good friends from my middle school years.
