Emelyn was born on October 5th, 2008 at 12 pm in the hospital “Hijas de Galicia Ciudad Habana”, located in Havana, Cuba. She had her father present on the day of her birth. Her parents are Yanaisys and Alexey she also had an older sister named Lisandra. When Emelyn was born her parents were amazed because how she was bigger than average as a newborn. From the hospital, her parents took Emelyn to her new home in Güira de Melena, Artemisa. Her mom took really good care of her by not taking her outside of the house for the first 45 days, but Emelyn’s mom took her to the backyard to get some sun and air at least once a day. After one year and four months, her parents gave her a little sister named Medelin who was born on February 18th, 2010. Medelin is now 13 years old and almost taller than Emelyn.
One of Emelyn’s greatest talents is dancing and cooking. She won a lot of awards for solos, duets with her sister, and group dances. She once won first place in the hip-hop category, which is her favorite dance style, and also won in the overall category of her age group. The other great talent she has is cooking. Emelyn took a cooking course online and got a diploma recognizing her work. What she likes to cook the most are pastries which are like science experiments because she constantly has to work with the temperature and different chemicals. She can also play tennis, volleyball, and basketball. For those sports, it is essential to be strong and athletic. Emelyn is now focused on High School since she is going to try doing as many sports as possible there. Her favorite hobby is doing arts and crafts. She loves to paint with colors and patterns.
Her greatest accomplishments started on her first day of school. Emelyn has won a lot of prizes throughout her years in school. She has won at least three Spanish spelling bee medals at her school level and two at her district level. She has also won a lot of awards in dance. In school, she won three medals in the Rodeo Art Shows. Emelyn has been in the GT program since she was in third grade. Now in Middle School, she is in Advanced classes and Encounters. She won a second-place medal in the Social Studies 6th-grade UIL competition. In her 7th and 8th grade years, she played volleyball, basketball, and Track & Field. By doing this she got athlete of the year for 7th grade because she was the only one that managed to do all three sports. She is almost done with her 8th-grade year and hopes to have the same ending as the Athlete of the year.
One of Emelyn’s biggest goals is to graduate from Harvard college which is one of the best colleges in the world. She also hopes to help her family in Cuba or even bring them to the United States for a better life. Emelyn is also on the WAMS volleyball, basketball, and track & Field team, and is one of the best on the teams. Next year she will be heading to High School and is wishing for a great four years.
