Where I'm Truly Myself

I am from my organized room where everything is colorful and filled with many items.

and from my backyard and my favorite stuffed animal, Benny the Bunny.

I am from a crazy family that parties every weekend and ends up on the floor.

and from knowing that there would always be a spot to pull up a chair at my uncles dinner table.

I am from the apple tree that is at my grandparents house in Mexico.

whose we planted when I was little.

I am from the smell of the oven when the cookies are ready.

I am from Jesus and Silvia Montelongo.

and from my aunt's famous tamales to my moms chicken salad.

I am from those moments when we take a big family photo where I'm surrounded by the people who I love and care about.
