Vocal Music

Grade 9 Vocal Music (AMV 1O1)

This course emphasizes the performance of music at a level that strikes a balance between challenge and skill and is aimed at developing technique, sensitivity and imagination. Students will participate in creative activities that teach them to listen with understanding. They will also learn correct musical terminology and its appropriate use. This course is designed for vocal students.

Grade 10 Vocal Music (AMV 2O1)

This course emphasizes the performance of music at an intermediate level that strikes a balance between challenge and skill. Student learning will include participating in creative activities and listening perceptively. Students will also be required to develop a thorough understanding of the language of music, including the elements, terminology, and history. This course is designed for vocal students.

Prerequisite: None Recommendation: AMV 1O1

Grade 11 Vocal Music (AMV 3M1)

This course emphasizes the appreciation, analysis, and performance of various kinds of music, including baroque and classical music, popular music, and Canadian and non-Western music. Students will perform technical exercises and appropriate repertoire, complete detailed creative activities, and analyze and evaluate live and recorded performances. They will continue to increase their understanding of the elements of music while developing their technical and imaginative abilities. This course is designed for vocal students.

Prerequisite: AMV 1O1 or AMV 2O1 Recommendation: AMV 2O1

Grade 12 Vocal Music (AMV 4M1)

This course emphasizes the appreciation, analysis, and performance of music from the romantic period and the twentieth century, including art music, jazz, popular music and Canadian and non-Western music. Students will concentrate on developing interactive skills and the ability to work independently. They will also complete complex creative projects. This course is designed for vocal students.

Prerequisite: AMV 3M1

ESL Vocal, Level 2 (AMV 1OR)

This adapted course for ESL students will develop English language skills and help students adjust to their new cultural environment. This includes the performance of music, musical sensitivity and imagination, the study of Canadian culture, the development of oral English. Students will participate in creative activities that will inspire them to respectfully listen to a variety of music, acquire correct music technique, and musical terminology and its appropriate use. This course will explore learning strategies while increasing students’ confidence, motivation and capacity to learn.

ESL Vocal, Level 3 (AMV 2OR)

This adapted course for ESL students will develop English language skills and help students adjust to their new cultural environment. This includes the performance of music, musical sensitivity and imagination, the study of Canadian culture, the development of oral English. Students will participate in creative activities that will inspire them to respectfully listen to a variety of music, acquire correct music technique, and musical terminology and its appropriate use. This course will explore learning strategies while increasing students’ confidence, motivation and capacity to learn.
