The Enhanced Construction Program (ECP) offered by the Thames Valley District School Board (TVDSB) is a co-op program designed for grades 11 and 12 students, providing practical experience in construction-related fields. It's a way for students to gain industry-standard knowledge and skills before pursuing post-secondary options like apprenticeships, colleges, universities, or direct employment.
What is ECP?
• UBC Built Local 1946 and TVDSB are partnering to offer the Enhanced Construction Program starting in September.
• ECP provides students with hands-on carpentry experience at the Carpenters Union while earning credits towards their OSSD.
• ECP equips students with industry-recognized training, real-world experience, and a direct pathway into a skilled trade.
• Students in grades 11 and 12 attend Construction, English and Math classes at the Local Carpenter’s Union for one semester
• Opportunity for 4 credit coop with a union company follows
• 20 students in an ECP class each semester
Courses at the Carpenter Union:
Two-credit Construction course (TCJ3C2/TCJ4C2),
Math (MBF3C/MAP4C), and
Online English (ENG3C/ENG4C)
Home School Courses (in the alternate semester):
Four-credit coop placement following classroom instruction.
STUDENT BENEFITS
• Gain valuable skills, certifications, and work experience in the construction industry
• Students will receive $900 worth of tools and Personal Protective Equipment (PPE).
• Health and Safety certifications will be provided.
• Opportunity to work towards SHSM Construction - OSSD
• Paid placements are available, subject to Ministry of Labour funding.
• Successful students may be invited to join the Carpenters Union upon completion of the program
