SPECIALIST HIGH SKILLS MAJORS AT WCI
WCI has been designated as a SPECIALIST HIGH SKILLS MAJOR (SHSM) high school in three learning areas:

Grade 11 Enriched English / Grade 12 English Advanced Placement
ADVANCED PLACEMENT PROGRAM EXAMS are a form of enrichment for post-secondary credit, where students prepare to write an exam in any of the 36 subject areas that would be equivalent to a first-year university course. Should students score a level 4 or 5 out of a possible 5, they may be eligible to receive either a 1.0 transfer credit at a university and/or advance standing in course placement, depending on the post-secondary institution. AP fosters critical and creative thinking, allows for mentoring in a subject area of interest, and assists in the development of both higher-order thinking skills and overall study skills for post-secondary education. The cost of each exam is approximately $125 CAD. AP will be delivered in a self-study, tutorial, or full credit course format.
Students choosing to pursue an AP course - English Literature and Composition - will select the ENG4UA option, which is a blend of Grade 12 University curriculum and preparation for the AP exam in that subject area. An AP course will be assessed at the regular 4U1 level, not at a first year university level. *Students are encouraged to take the ENG3UE prior to signing up for the ENG4UA.
