Get involved! Join a team, a club, or a student group - this helps you make friends faster, builds confidence, and gives you new experiences! This is what creates the high school memories you will have when you graduate!
Know the helpers in your building! Knowing your guidance counsellor, the Resource teachers (for IEP students), the Student Success teacher, the social worker, and your Vice-Principal, means that you can access help when you need it! Use the website to determine who you are connected to. Get to know your teachers asap, as well - they are here to support you. Ask for help when you need it!
Attend the "High School Here I Come" Program in the summer! This program is specifically designed to help you navigate the ins and outs of all things High School. During this time you will learn how to use a combination lock, how to read your timetable, you will tour the school, meet some senior students and will connect with other new grade 9 students!
Plan to Plan! Think about what organizational structures you will use when you get here. The semester system moves quickly. What will you use to track deadlines? A paper planner? A google calendar? Where will you do your homework? Do you have a calm, quiet place to work?
Mind your Mind! Starting anything new can be both exciting and a little stressful. Feelings of anxiety around high school are totally normal! What self-care strategies do you have in place? Meditation? A sport? Drawing? Music? Getting outside?
