The Banting Distance Program is built on the belief that strong, competitive performances come from consistency, intelligent training, and a commitment to long-term athlete development. Our focus events are the 800m, 1500m, and 3000m, and our training is designed to prepare athletes to be powerful, resilient, and confident across their respective distances. We prioritize competitive performance while maintaining proper development, health, and sustainable progress.
Our training emphasizes strong fundamentals: efficient movement, aerobic development, speed mechanics, and progressive training loads. Speed is treated as a skill that must be developed year-round, even for distance runners. Athletes regularly work on posture, arm action, stride mechanics, and acceleration through drills, strides, and short speed sessions. This ensures our runners are not only fit, but fast and technically sound.
Consistency is the cornerstone of success in this program. We value showing up, building habits, and trusting the process more than chasing short-term results. Athletes train five days per week using a structured balance of aerobic running, speed development, strength endurance, and recovery. Workouts are purposeful, progressive, and appropriate for high school athletes. Easy days stay easy. Hard days have clear intent. Every session has a reason.
The culture of the Banting Distance Program is hard working and competitive while remaining supportive and team centered. We push each other to improve, celebrate effort, and hold high standards for attitude, commitment, and respect. Athletes are encouraged to take pride in preparation, discipline, and resilience.
Success in this program is defined by:
Improved fitness and race performance
Strong training habits and consistency
Technical development and efficiency
Mental toughness and confidence
Team culture and accountability
We believe athletes grow best when they understand why they train the way they do. Runners are taught to recognize effort levels, understand pacing, manage recovery, and take ownership of their progress. Education is part of training. The Banting Distance Program is not about shortcuts or extreme methods. It is about building strong runners through smart planning, steady progression, and attention to detail. We aim to develop athletes who are disciplined, confident, and prepared to compete at a high level while building habits that support lifelong success in sport.
