The Cooperative Education program offers students an opportunity to:
explore career choices
strengthen on the job training
develop skills transferrable to all career areas
make valuable contacts in the work world
All of these opportunities will assist in the important career pathway decisions students must make. Typically, each Co-op course is two credits and the credits are awarded for successful on-the-job experience , evaluated by the employer and teacher, as well as completion of paper work. To participate in Cooperative Education, students must have the necessary academic requirements, appropriate maturity level and there must be suitable placement availability. The procedure for applying to all Cooperative Education courses is as outlined below.

Families and students are encouraged to begin early in the planning such as researching organizations of interest, reviewing transportation plan for attending the workplace and returning to South, as well as contacting to inquire about hosting opportunities.
Please note that some placement opportunities will have applications for completion before the co-op course commences such as during the summer break. Attending the spring interviews will help to keep everyone informed about unique timelines.
Interviews for Co-op are mandatory as it allows Co-op teachers/coordinators to gauge a student’s interests and conveys important information about the program to students and families.
