This unique triple-threat performance program is offered at the Grade 11 and Grade 12 levels. (Some grade 10 students can receive advanced placement in the program.) Students receive intensive training in singing, dancing, and acting.
The culminating activity is the production of a Broadway musical in Saunders' Auditorium. In addition to performing in the show, musical theatre students contribute to production teams to learn about the backstage duties in theatre.
Focuses on singing technique, rehearsal strategies, and the History of Musical Theatre. Students will work on Broadway repertoire in this course.
Focuses on drama production including acting training and technique. In addition to performing, students will be a member of a Production Department. Students will work on staging the show in this course.
Emphasizes the development of technical proficiency and the creation and presentation of complex dance compositions. Students will learn the choreography for the show in this course.
This course requires students to experiment individuality and collaboratively with forms and conventions of both drama and musical theatre from various cultures and time periods. Students will interpret dramatic literature and other texts and media sources while learning about various theories of directing and acting. Students will examine the significance of dramatic arts in various cultures and will analyze how the knowledge and skills developed in drama are related to their personal skills, social awareness, and goals beyond secondary school. The focus will be on performance and historical conventions related to Musical Theatre.

Students will interpret and stage performances based on dramatic literature and other text and media sources while learning about various theories of directing, acting and stage production. Students will examine the significance of dramatic arts in various cultures and will analyze how knowledge and skills developed in drama are related to their personal skills, social awareness, and goals beyond secondary school. Students will assume responsibility for various production roles, engage in the dynamics of an ensemble theatre company, and perform in the main stage Musical Theatre production in the Auditorium.

This course will give students opportunities to express increasingly complex ideas through movement and choreography. Students will develop technical skills; study the historical aspects of various dance forms and function of dance in specific cultures; evaluate dance works; and investigate ways in which the study can prepare them for various careers. Students will focus on musical theatre dance forms and will be responsible for learning, interpreting and performing choreography in the main stage Musical Theatre production in the Auditorium.

Every other year, we offer ADB3M1/4M1 as a single-credit Musical Theatre course. Students will participate in a variety of singing, dancing, and acting exercises to grow as a performer. We’ll rehearse and perform group songs and research famous Broadway performers and musicals. Students write and perform original one-act musicals. This is a fun and interactive course for drama students who love to perform. No audition is necessary!
