December 15, 2021: In our second game we faced CASS at home. Jackie, Jaelynn, Whitney & Naomi started the game. Our first end saw CASS steal 1 point in an unlucky takeout attempt on IDCI's turn. In the second end, IDCI was sitting one with only the skip stones left to play. CASS' skip missed a takeout attempt, which left Jackie an opportunity to guard the stone. Jackie perfectly set the guard, and managed to make it second shot as well. This forced the CASS skip to try draw to the button, which was not accomplished, setting IDCI to score 2 points in the second end. Both IDCI and CASS struggled in the third end to place any stones in the house. CASS' skip managed to mistakenly raise one of IDCI's stones into the house on her first attempt. On her second attempt, she managed to raise her own stone a bit closer to the button than IDCI's. CASS ended up with 1 point in the third end. The fourth end didn't see any CASS stones in the house until the skip once again raised one of their stones just a fraction closer than the two stones IDCI was able to keep in the house. In an unlucky tick, Jackie raised another CASS stone into the house. They sat first and second shot, while IDCI sat third and fourth. On Jackie's hammer shot, she was was able to land her stone as second shot, keeping the steal just to 1 point. The fifth end saw Kate-Lynn and Lauryn sub in for Naomi and Jaelynn respectively. In the fifth end, Whitney was able to land her first attempt in the 12 foot paint, then Lauryn guarded it on her fist attempt and raised Whitney's a bit closer on her second attempt. Lauryn also managed to keep her stone in the 12 foot paint as well. IDCI sat 2 points when the skips' turns came up. The skips' stones made no difference to the house, so IDCI scored 2 in the fifth end. Going into the sixth end, IDCI was leading by 1, but CASS had the hammer. Neither team was able to land a stone in the house until Lauryn stuck one into the top of the house. Unfortunately, CASS' Vice snuck one a bit closer to the button. That rock ended up being the only point, setting up a singleton for CASS. Final score was IDCI-4, CASS-4.
Have a great Christmas break and the coaches hope to see everyone in the new year.

This year's team consists of one veteran player, Jackie Fisher (playing in the Skip position), along with 7 players who had never curled before (Savannah Brueckner, Cynthia Hotton, Lauryn Johnson, Naomi Kerr, Jaelynn MacLeod, Kate-Lynn Pink, and Whitney Vincent). After only four on-ice practices, Coach Fred brought them up to speed on curling techniques and etiquette.
December 13, 2021: The first game of the season for the Girls' Curling Team was an exciting one for them. After several cancelled games, the Girls were able to travel to Woodstock to face off with WCI. Skip Jackie was in charge of leading the team of first year players to their season opening victory. With two injured players (Savannah and Cynthia) cheering the team on from the warm room, the team started off with Jackie in the Skip position, Lauryn as Vice, Whitney as Second, and Kate-Lynn as Lead. WCI had hammer in the first and ended up scoring 1 point after IDCI mistakenly took out their own rock. The second end saw WCI stealing a point, but, that would be the last point they would score for the remainder of the game. IDCI scored 2 points in the third and and the teams blanked the fourth end. After a short break and some substitutions (Jaelynn stepping in as Vice and Naomi stepping in as Lead), IDCI managed to steal 1 point in each of the last 3 ends of play. Final score was IDCI-5, WCI-2.
The coaches are proud of the way the girls played in their first game and the effort they put into learning a new sport. Congratulations on a great start to the season!

In the second end, East Elgin managed to keep 3 rocks in play, but Skip Jackie was able to land one on the button to tie the game up after 2. The 3rd was close, having both teams switching shot rock several times. East Elgin was not able to capitalize with their last rock and IDCI stole 1 in the third. In the 4th end, with 2 rocks left, East Elgin was sitting 1 and Skip Jackie managed to knock out East Elgin's rock and gave IDCI shot rock and ended up stealing 1 more. IDCI was up 3-1 at half. After the break, IDCI was able to keep East Elgin to one point in the 5th end. IDCI was leading 3-2 going into the sixth end. With only Skip rocks left, IDCI was sitting shot rock. January 13, 2020: IDCI faced HPSS on Woodstock ice. The girls adapted to the different ice quickly. The 1st end was looking like a steal of four, until Skip Jackie threw last rock and managed to hold them to only one point. The 2nd end was also an exciting end. The girls kept the rocks in the house to a minimum, but left HPSS sitting 2, but Jackie, once again, had last rock. This time Jackie was able to sneak her rock behind their two rocks to score one and tie it up. The next two ends went HPSS' way with them scoring two points in both, leaving them behind 5-1 going into the break. Not getting discouraged, IDCI ramped up their game and took 2 back in the 5th end.
