For each of the programs below, your co-op teacher will find a subject/program specific co-op placement for you to get hands on and experiential learning. Hairstyling & Aesthetics SHSM
The Arts & Culture Specialist High Skills Major (SHSM) program with a focus in Fashion, Hairstyling and Aesthetics gives students an opportunity to specialize, gain qualifications, and plan a career pathway in various areas of the Fashion, Hairstyling and Aesthetics sectors while still in high school. The program has a number of required components, designed to give students a “leg-up” to pursue post-secondary opportunities in each of the identified sectors, valuing apprenticeship, college, university and the workplace. Graduates will receive a red seal on their OSSD upon graduation.

Art SHSM
The Bealart SHSM program provides students with specialized, hands-on training in both traditional visual arts and emerging new media forms. Through dynamic partnerships with influential local arts organizations such as Museum London, TAP Centre for Creativity, and the Grand Theatre, students gain invaluable industry experience through workshops and co-op opportunities, building a professional network while honing their craft. The program integrates seamlessly with the enriched multi-credit Bealart curriculum, offering a robust visual arts education fostering both technical mastery and creative exploration. Above all, Bealart SHSM empowers students to find and amplify their artistic voice, while fostering leadership, collaboration, and entrepreneurial thinking, preparing them for successful careers in today’s evolving arts landscape.

Construction SHSM
According to the Ontario Construction Secretariat, the construction industry is one of Ontario’s largest employers. The Construction Sector Council has created a province-by-province, trade-by-trade labour market forecast for the next nine years. In Ontario, it is estimated that 60,000 workerswill be required to replace those retiring, who will take essential technical, supervisory, and management skills with them. Furthermore, an additional 75,000 workers will be needed to fill positions related to new construction between 2009 and 2017.

Business SHSM
The SHSM–Business enables students to build a foundation of sector-focused knowledge and skills before graduating and entering apprenticeship training, college, university, or an entry-level position in the workplace. Where local circumstances allow, boards may elect to offer one or more variants of the SHSM in a given sector, each with a particular area of focus. This SHSM may be designed to have a particular focus – for example, on entrepreneurship, finance, accounting, retail, marketing, international business, economics, management and administration, or event planning. This focus is achieved through the selection of the four major credits in the bundle.

Communications & I.T SHSM
The SHSM–Information and Communications Technology enables students to build a foundation of sector-focused knowledge and skills before graduating and entering apprenticeship training, college, university, or an entry-level position in the workplace. Where local circumstances allow, boards may elect to offer one or more variants of the SHSM in a given sector, each with a particular area of focus. This SHSM may be designed to have a particular focus – for example, on communication systems, computer systems, or software and digital media. This focus is achieved through the selection of the four major credits in the bundle.

This SHSM may be designed to have a particular focus – for example, on competitive and recreational sports, sports management, or sports media and broadcasting.

Manufacturing SHSM
The SHSM–Manufacturing enables students to build a foundation of sector-focused knowledge and skills before graduating and entering apprenticeship training, college, university, or an entry-level position in the workplace. Students are exposed to a wide variety of careers in the manufacturing sector, from broad areas such as programming, operation, service, and repair to more specific areas such as robotics and advanced manufacturing.
