Multiple Choice Questions

• Read and RE-read questions very s l o w l y.
• Make sure you understand what the question is asking.
• Underline, circle or highlight key words in both the question stem and the answer choices.
• Always read ALL of the answer choices, even when the first or second answer choice looks correct.
• Think of the multiple choice options as a series of true / false statements.
• Cover the answer options, read the question stem, and try to answer without looking at the possible answers.
• Use the process of elimination:
  1. cross off any answer choices that are clearly wrong, then
  2. cross off any answer choices that are partially wrong, then
  3. cross off any answer choices that are true - but have nothing to do with the question, then
  4. re-read the answer choices which remain “open.” - pick the one that is most true
• Answer every question. Make sure you have NOT left any blanks.

And if all else fails, making an educated guess is acceptable.
