Closing due to snow or hazardous driving conditions.
School will be canceled if heavy snow and/or icy conditions make it exceedingly hazardous for school buses to travel their routes and/or for employees and students to report to school safely. When conditions exist or forecasts have been made with a high confidence level, decisions and notifications will be made by 6:00 p.m. whenever possible. A morning-of cancellation will be made by 5 a.m. when there is a mid- to low-level of confidence from the NWS forecaster the evening prior. As a general practice, all activities are canceled unless otherwise noted.
School will be canceled if the National Weather Service issues a "Blizzard Warning" that will be in place between 6AM and 10AM when students would be traveling to or from school. Additional factors that are considered include road closures due to road conditions within district boundaries or a snow emergency in effect for the City of Gothenburg.
Closing due to temperature or wind chill.
School will be canceled if the National Weather Service issues an "Extreme Cold Warning" that will be in place between 6AM and 10AM when students would be traveling to school. An "Extreme Cold Warning" is issued when wind chill values are -30 degrees F. Notifications regarding an Extreme Cold cancellation will be made no later than 9:00 p.m. the night before a cancellation. As a general practice, all activities are canceled unless otherwise noted.
These are intended to serve as general guidelines. We recognize that all weather-related decisions are complex, and while we will make every effort to follow these parameters, the superintendent retains the discretion to make adjustments as necessary based on the specific circumstances.
