Special Education

Students with Individualized Education Plans (IEP) will have virtual support from their teachers, case managers and support staff. Learning Support teachers will collaborate with classroom teachers to provide appropriate accommodations and modifications as your child will have the opportunity to engage and be instructed in on-line general education as outlined in Section VII of his/her current IEP.

Related Services (Speech & Language, Occupational Therapy, and Physical Therapy) will be provided virtually to the maximum extent possible.

Governor Wolf passed Senate Bill 751 which became Act 23 stating that district’s will provide “written notice” to parents of students who have an IEP. You may reference a letter here describing the district’s plan to provide written notice. Case managers will begin sending this letter and an accompanying NOREP/PWN described in the letter via email beginning the week of April 6, 2020.

Counseling Services

Your school counselor has office hours and is available via email or by calling the school office. If someone in your family is experiencing a mental health emergency, please call 911 or Service Access & Management’s 24 hour crisis line at 610-236-0530.

RU OK Berks is available to support individuals who are affected by mental health concerns, are feeling hopeless, depressed, and/or are suicidal. You can call or text (484) 816- 7865 for support.

504 Service Agreements

If your child currently has a Section 504 Service Agreement, it will be implemented virtually to the maximum extent possible. Your child’s counselor will be reaching out to you via email or telephone call.. However, if you have any questions or concerns you are encouraged to communicate with your child’s respective teachers or click here for specific contact information for your child’s counselor.

Health Office Services

If you have specific questions for your school nurse you can call the school’s main office using the contact list and she will return your inquiry within 24 hours. You can also access lessons and news from our health office via your child’s teacher. If you have an immediate health care need, please contact your primary health care provider.

Gifted Individualized Education Plan (GIEP)

If your child has a GIEP it will be implemented to the maximum extent possible given the limitations of a virtual platform. Your case manager will be reaching out to you to discuss the specifics of implementation and any questions or concerns you may have. Additionally, we encourage you to communicate with your case manager should you have any questions at all.

English Learner (EL) Students

EL teachers will provide a continuity of support and Language Acquisition Instruction to the maximum extent possible. Additionally, EL teachers will collaborate with classroom teachers to provide appropriate accommodations and modifications, instructions, and translation supports. Specific contacts are as follows:

Safe Schools

Safe2Say Something is a youth violence prevention program run by the Pennsylvania Office of Attorney General. The program teaches youth and adults how to recognize warning signs and signals, especially within social media, from individuals who may be a threat to themselves or others and to “say something” BEFORE it is too late. With Safe2Say Something, it’s easy and confidential to report safety concerns to help prevent violence and tragedies.
