1.0 9th Grade Heath & Fitness is required and meets the 0.5 credit Health requirement
Grade 9
This required 9th grade course will evaluate current health status and set health goals based on personal need. Short term and long-term goals will be included. It will explore the youth factors and strategies for making good decisions about social, physical, mental and spiritual health. Some of the topics include the following: appearance, nutrition and fitness, stress management, personality traits, alcohol, drugs and tobacco, human growth and development, first aid and CPR. The fitness portion of the class will acquaint students with a variety of lifetime sports and skills to be used in maintaining a healthy lifestyle throughout life. This course must be taken in the 9th grade prior to enrolling in any other fitness curriculum. Upper classmen are not enrolled in the PE portion of the course.
Grades 10-12
This course will acquaint the student with a variety of lifetime sports and skills to be used in maintaining a healthy lifestyle throughout life. The course will include such activities as: football, soccer, softball, golf, volleyball, pickleball, badminton, basketball, weekly fitness tests and a number of low-level activities. Students are required to dress down for each class and a portion of the grade is based on overall participation.
Grades 10-12
Students will be in the weight room on a daily basis performing a variety of activities/movements in a safe and technically correct way. The activities/movements performed are designed to set each student up to have adequate mobility, flexibility and strength to perform day-to-day activities and will give students the tools and knowledge to lead and live a healthy lifestyle outside of school.
Grades 10-12
Total Fitness is one’s ability to exercise daily activities with optimal performance, endurance, and strength with the management of fatigue, stress and the reduction of sedentary behavior. It consists of the following components: cardiorespiratory fitness, muscular strength, muscular endurance, body composition and flexibility.
