RAZ Kids Online Reading Information
Your child will be using RAZ Kids in class once or twice a week. The first level that your child is placed in will be slightly lower than their independent reading level so your child can become familiar with the program and most importantly the follow-up comprehension question format. I will be doing whole group lessons in class using RAZ Kids and teaching the students how to use reading strategies to help them while reading the books. These are the same reading strategies that we use in our small group guided reading instruction.
RAZ Kids goal- is not to race through the levels but to take their time and ALWAYS answer the follow up comprehension questions after each book (book quiz). The comprehension questions help practice:
author’s purpose
main idea
characters
setting
story details
rereading the book for more understanding
sequencing of a story
inferential questions
character connections and much, much more!!!
Your child can decide to either listen to the story or read the story out loud to you. I encourage both! There is also an incentive program to earn points toward some fun RAZ Kids activities. Enjoy this great resource!
