Hi there! I'm the 7-12 social studies teacher here at the Goodridge School.
As a Goodridge alumna, I don't think I ever imagined that I would return to the Goodridge School to sit behind one of the teachers' desks! I graduated in 2011 and packed my bags for the University of North Dakota, bound and determined to trade in the country life for the (more glamorous) city life.
While at UND, I had a blast trying out new things, meeting new people, and being involved on campus. In four short years, I managed to learn how to fence (and no, not the kind where you string wire from post to post), join a sorority, learn Norwegian, serve on a newspaper publication board, take a class all about Lord of the Rings, intern in UND's Office of University and Public Affairs, learn how to ballroom dance, and graduate cum laude with a bachelors degree in both communications, and history. After graduation, I stayed in Grand Forks and transitioned from interning at UND to working there writing numerous press releases, feature articles for the UND home webpage, and articles for various UND publications. It was then that I truly started to realize what I wanted out of life.
It took leaving Goodridge for me to realize how truly special and unique my experience growing up here was. I learned that being a part of a rural community is so much more valuable and special than I had every thought it was, and I decided that I didn't want to be a 'city girl' after all. I became passionate about keeping small schools, which are often the beating heart of a rural community, alive and thriving.
Before I knew it, I found myself trading in my address once again, but this time I was going home. I enrolled in an online teaching licensure program through BSU because I wanted to make a difference in the lives of students in rural areas. I've made it my mission to do my best to provide small town students with a world-class education, and to be a positive role model for them-- one who can speak from experience about the different challenges and opportunities available to them in the area.
And that's how I found myself sitting on the other side of one of the teacher's desk in the good ol' Goodridge School since the fall of 2018. But please, don't let that desk be a barrier, feel free to come and chat with me anytime, it can be about social studies, college, hobbies (I like horseback riding, trivia, and movies), or just about life in general; my door is always open!
