Welcome to Goodhue’s School Readiness Preschool Program

Goodhue Learning Readiness Program is a public preschool program for 3-5-year-old children.  Our philosophy about how young children learn is that they acquire knowledge by repeatedly exploring, manipulating, experimenting, and interacting with their peers and adults.  They need to be offered open-ended, age-appropriate activities, which foster active exploration.  We use a researched-based curriculum that is through Scholastic. Pre-K On My Way, to prepare our students for kindergarten.  The curriculum focuses on a classroom that is set up into interest areas that include: a block area, dramatic play area, art exploration, library, sensory experiences, music and movement, gross motor and math and language activities.

Children in our School Readiness Program will be assessed in the areas of social/emotional development, fine motor development, cognitive development and language development. Socialization and independence skills mastered in the 3-year-old class will help to prepare the children for more academic learning in the 4-year-old class.  The program uses the Pre-K On My Way  assessment framework, along with ESGI.   The 4-year-old program will start the American Reading Company (ARC) at the Read to Me Level; with the goal of all 4 / 5 year olds to be in the 1 Yellow level by the time they enter kindergarten.

The S.M.A.R.T. program is also implemented in our program. S.M.A.R.T is a program that focuses on motor development in order to get children’s brains ready for learning. The developers of this curriculum use the latest brain research along with a variety of developmental programs to create purposeful and enriching learning environments.  This environment will be set up outside of our classroom so students can have time to move their bodies.
