False Freedom
by ______
The poem False Freedom is about the character Curley’s wife in the novella Of Mice and Men. It demonstrates entrapment and the feeling of being neglected.
I am ignored and misunderstood
I wonder if my spirit be free again
I hear the faint sounds of buzzing and shouting men
I see the streaks of sunlight climbing up the wall
I want my fame, my fortune, and my freedom
I am ignored and misunderstood
I pretend to rise high above the world
I feel neglected and alone with frustration
I touch the smooth, silk strands atop my head
I worry I will never feel joy once more
I cry inside, but outside I never let my guard down
I am ignored and misunderstood
I understand my life is contained
I don’t say my opinions
I dream for my former life
I wish for everyone’s eyes to be on me
I hope everyone will finally understand my view
I am ignored and misunderstood

Sob Poem (The last time I hugged my dad)
by Amber Fulop
My poem is about a moment I want to last forever which is my dad hugging me. My dad’s hugs were always so comforting and made me feel safe. Those hugs made me feel like everything was going to be okay. Now I don’t receive his hugs anymore which makes me sob. I use the word sob in my poem because it shows how I cry everytime I think of my dad hugging me and how I always remember those hugs and how special they were and how my dad would be proud of me for who I am today.
When I was little, my dad was my best friend
My favorite person in the whole world
Waiting for him to come home from work after school
That was the excitement of my day
I sob everytime I think back to that
I would jump into his arms and give him the biggest hug
I always felt safe and his hugs comforted me not matter what
Those hugs made me feel like everything was going to be okay
All that mattered was that moment
I sob remembering how his hugs felt
One day my dad went on a work trip
I hug him once again feeling that special connection
Thinking everything is okay and letting him go
I didn’t think this would be the last time
I sob and sob to remember those special hugs
Now that I’m older, I realize no one's hugs are like his
He comforted me
He made me feel that I mattered
I sob wishing for his hug to be there for me
I recognize that I will never get a hug like his
But I know that he is proud of me everyday
It's been almost 5 years since he passed
I look back and I realize I’m grateful for his hugs
I sob with joy thinking of how lucky I am to have experienced his hugs
I appreciate how much he loved me and I sob thinking back to it
My dad will always be a part of who I am
I sob because I am proud of the person he made me today
I miss your hugs dad
I sob when remembering how special they were
But I never forget how brave you told me to always be
I sob to the thought of remembering your comforting hugs
I love you dad

Devil-Flower Fracture
by ____
For this piece, the prompt was to take anything and break it up. I decided to take a picture of a devil and break it up. Between the devil, I wanted to contrast the devil with colorful flowers and tree vines. I wanted to show both the good and bad in one piece of artwork.
The Power of Words
by Talia Rosen '26
"The Power of Words" is a poem about the ways that words can help and harm people and the various ways in which words can be used.
They say “Actions speak louder than words”
But what about when the words are the action
When the words you scream or write or sing
Are the action
What about the times when the words are all you have
When you find yourself practicing and perfecting
Because no one seems to listen
Unless the words are perfect
Just the right order
Just the right words
Because without the words
What is there to know?
The words build up around us,
The stroke of the pen across the page
The words slide out of your mind and into the world
Forever imprinted in memory
Words can make
A story of a girl in a castle
A history of all the world
An explanation of the way our universe works
A poem about words
Words
When used correctly
Change us for the better
When used wrong
They change us for the worse
Words
That thing that’s “mightier than the sword”
Words
That build us up
That tear us down
That is the power of words.

“This piece was inspired by people's personalities. The snake symbolizes a dark and brooding personality which is contrasted with the flower that symbolizes a happy and open personality.”
