The Extended Essay starts in November of L6, after half term, and ends in September of U6. All IB students have time to research their ideas, discuss them with a subject specialist supervisor, and decide on an interesting topic beyond the IB syllabus.
Every Tuesday the L6 IB students have a dedicated EE lesson to support them in the skills they require at each important stage of creating their own 4,000 word essay. How to research, how to evaluatively reflect and how to plan an effective argument are just some of the skills that EE students develop. They read widely and critically; they learn how to cite their sources.
Organised reflection meetings, clear deadlines and days off timetable for writing in the summer term are all contributing factors to successful EEs at Godolphin and Latymer, to proud students confident of their ability, and enthusiastically prepared for academic essay writing at university.
