In order to provide a safe and nurturing environment where students have the best opportunities to learn and develop positive relationships with each other, it is necessary for children to know and demonstrate the expectations of our classroom. We will go over these expectations often at the beginning of the year. Please take the time to talk about these expectations with your child so he/she knows that we are working together for success.
Our expectations are:
-Follow directions quickly.
-Raise your hand to ask permission to speak during whole group time.
-Make smart choices.
-Listen when your teacher is talking.
-Keep hands, feet and all things to yourself.
Apollo Elementary students are taught many character traits to strengthen social skills at school and in the world. With lessons from our school counselor, we focus on the following: Kindness, Respect, Responsibility, Gratitude, Empathy, Perseverance, Honesty, Cooperation, Courage and Creativity.
During the first few days of school, we will create a social contract. This contract will state how students want to be treated by me, by their peers and how I would like to be treated by them. We will discuss what we do when there is a problem.
4th Grade Classroom
Management plan
In 4th grade teachers rely on a checklist system shared between the homeroom teacher and the co-teacher to help students monitor their behaviors and to encourage positive attitudes. Each day is a new beginning and every child starts the day with no marks. Agenda books are marked each day with the following:
E=Excellent (no marks that day)
S=Satisfactory (1-2 marks that day)
N=Needs Improvement (3-4 marks that day)
U=Unsatisfactory (more than 4 marks that day)
The consequences in our classrooms are as follows:
The student is verbally reminded to change inappropriate behavior.
If the behavior is repeated, a mark is written on the clipboard.
Repeated marks result in a “Think Sheet”.
If the behavior continues/escalates, parents are contacted.
The student will be asked to see the counselor or principal for further problem-solving.
