The Eisenhower High School Teaching Observation class is an opportunity for students to work with younger students one hour per school day at a Goddard elementary school. The Observation student will assist a teacher in grades K-4 to create a positive learning environment. Duties will include working with elementary children and helping the teacher with activities and class preparation. Students must have good attendance and behavior! If you DO NOT attend your Observation Classroom DAILY or are asked to leave your placement (due to issues), then you will be dropped from this course and enrolled in a class at EHS. If this occurs, be aware that you will NOT receive credit for that hour. Students must provide their own transportation to the assigned building.
As you agreed to on your contract, you will:
Attend Observation EVERY day.
Be on time to your placement. DO NOT be tardy! (Tardies can result in termination of Observation.) (If you are absent for any reason other than school related, you will not receive your daily points for this day.)
Work in assigned classroom for the full amount of time each day. May only leave 5 minutes before the end of the day. Those working during 7th hour must stay until 2:51. NO LEAVING EARLY!! You must scan in and out each day in your elementary classroom using your unique QR Code
You MUST sign in and out at the office of the elementary school.
Must complete the assigned questions through Google Classroom every Friday or the last day of the week. Must complete after you attend your observation class. Responses will not be accepted past Monday, the next week.
If you will be absent, let Mrs. Salazar and your cooperative teacher know “ahead” of time if possible verbally and by email. If you are ill, you should email Mrs. Salazar and your cooperating teacher that morning to let us know.
Be a positive role model and staff member in the school.
Exhibit the positive behaviors expected of all personnel working in the Goddard Schools
NO CELL PHONE use during the class. Only time to use cell phone is to check-in with your cooperating teacher. Each one of you will have a unique QR Code in which you will scan daily. More than 2 unexcused absences will result in the dismissal of the course and you will receive an F for Teaching Observation.
URGENT-Appropriate Dress
ALL shorts should be long (above the knee no more than 2 ½-3 inches—BERMUDA shorts) and “nice” looking- no “unfinished” hems on shorts. Your shirts need to be conservative- NO spaghetti straps, one shoulder, or strapless tops (or dresses) can be worn. If you wear one of those tops to EHS, you MUST wear a jacket or sweater over it while at the elementary school.
Appropriate language - Also, no questionable topics of conversation should occur.
Professional Attitude
STAY OFF YOUR CELL PHONE!!!!! NO TEXTING OR SURFING THE INTERNET EITHER!!! To help yourself out, JUST LEAVE YOUR PHONE IN THE CAR!
If you are asked to leave your school placement because of a cell phone, you will be enrolled in a class at EHS for NO CREDIT!!
After the first couple weeks, I will check on you periodically. Your daily attendance will also be monitored with your unique QR code which your cooperating teacher will keep posted in the classroom. The QR code MUST remain in the classroom! Non-school related absences will have daily points deducted.
Please contact me if any concerns arise between you and your teacher or if you have any questions. Good luck and enjoy yourself! Please stop by my room every couple weeks to let me know how things are going- so I don’t have to call you to my class.
Completion of Weekly Google Classroom Questions - due every Monday. If you do not complete the weekly questions by the due date, students will only receive half credit.
