75% or 3/4 of the worlds water is in the ocean. This fact gave BWA a great idea. If 633 million people are suffering from lack of fresh water, there is an excess if salt water. Currently,salt water is unable to be safely taken in by a human. If somehow, you could be able to drink salt water, the percentage of people who live without clean water would decrease drastically. If you are asking yourself,"but how would people in poverty be able to afford this?" then I will answer your question. If BWA finds a cheap way to filter salt water to fresh water at an acceptable rate, they won't have to pay anything. Donations and supporters will help pay for the cost to filter salt water. The extra money would then be spent to pump the clean water through pipes and for adequate water fountains and sinks that connect to the pipes. At the same time, this solves the problem of diseases from adolescents not washing their hands and then touching food, or other objects that eventually make their way through the blood stream and to cells.

Most other organisations think the solution to water and sanitation is to just try to get water to places caught in economic difficulties. As humans have lived on the earth, they have depleted natural resources, including water. Under 10% of water is recycled, which isn't enough to sustain our thirsts for long. Even though our country and world are trying to increase the amount of freshwater, BWA knows that we will need a new source of fresh water if we would like to survive.

The filter wouldn't be unlike the design of the life straw. Of course, the filter would be much larger.
