This part of the blog will work as a journal that I will (try to) update every Friday.
Granada, 12th September 2025
Another intense week just finished! The European Summer School for Scientometrics took place once again, this time in Granada. For the second time I participated in the event as a staff member and I had a great time! I loved meeting people from all over the world who are interested in learning about Scientometrics and I was happy to receive good feedback about the summer school.
This time I also had the opportunity to give a talk on datasources, which was exciting and I think it turned out pretty well! Now it’s time to rest. I’m excited about having the work routine back next week, this thesis won’t write itself!
Bristol, 5th September 2025
And we’re back! I feel like a completely different person, mainly because of the less-hot weather. Being able to sleep is great, I love Granada again. I am currently not in Granada, though. The academic year starts strong and I’m in Bristol, at the STI-ENID 2025! This is my third STI experience (the second as a researcher, the first time I was a volunteer) and the third time loving it. I realise this might sound like linkedin talk, but I really do find these kinds of gatherings really fulfilling and enriching. Everyone is very nice and you get to talk to people from all around the world about many things, academic or not. Academic work can feel sometimes lonely or like there is only one way to do it and in these spaces you can really see that a) there are many people out there who also care about bibliometric databases and b) there are many many things you can do with them!
This year I got to present my poster “Contagion of disrespect: Is there an inverse relation between gender parity and citation impact?” (you can find the submission here and the poster here) and I also chaired one session on mobility. I had never done any of those things and I think they turned out quite nicely. People seemed interested in the poster and I spent an hour and a half non-stop talking about it, and all presenters from my session respected the time (thank you for that).
In a nutshell, although conferences are very tiring, they may be the best way to start the academic year. They really are an inspiration boost.
Granada, 25th July 2025
This was the last week of the academic year for me. Wow. If I look back, I can’t believe this is the same year I went to STI for the first time, I participated as staff in the ESSS, I spent three months at Delft University and taught a university course again. Moreover, two of the articles for my thesis were accepted for publication (wow again). I don’t know, on a daily basis sometimes it does not feel like I get much done but right now, thinking about the last few months, it’s obvious to me that we’ve done quite a lot this year. I’m really excited about the summer holidays because I want to leave the Granada heat for a while, to chill for a bit and also to come back more energised afterwards.
Not gonna lie, the workaholic vibe of academia makes me feel a bit bad for taking holidays when there is so much to do still, but I want and need them, and so do all of us. I hope everyone allows themselves to relax and enjoy life outside of academia for a few weeks! Happy summer holidays!
Granada, 18th July 2025
No need to lie, we’re all just thinking about the summer holidays, so working was a hard thing to do this week. I’ve had meetings with many people and kept on working on all the projects that are currently active. Maybe because there are so many I don’t work as fast as I would like on them, but oh well. C’est la vie.
Just a few more days to go!!
Granada, 11th July 2025
I guess that, comparing it with previous weeks, this one was more chill. However, it did not feel like it. I don’t know why this time the end of the academic year is so full of things to do. Plus it’s so hot! I only dream about going to Santander and starting the summer holidays now. Only two more weeks to go! C’mon!
Granada, 4th July 2025
Ah, it’s too hot in Granada! Thankfully, there is less than a month until the summer break! This week the ANECA experiment I’m doing with Nico started and I gave a big push to the projects I’m doing with both Nico and Zaida. Last but not least, on Friday the colloquium on public and scientific communication that Sergio Guerra & I organized took place! I think it went pretty well…I was nervous but we managed to do something interesting, I believe! I’m also way more empathic towards people who organize things now!
Granada, 27th June 2025
Hello, hello, hello! This was an intense week! Not because there were many meetings or anything, but because of the heat. After coming home at midday I was so hot I would need to cool down for a bit so I ended up working until dinnertime most days. That’s summer in Granada for you baby. It was also a cool week, though. I feel like I’m getting somewhere with the things I’m doing and today we had the first PhD event at U^CHASS! On it, eight PhDs from the research unit presented our works and we got feedback from the most experienced researchers in our group. I was nervous about it but it went pretty well!! We will definitely do a second round next academic year!
Oh, and next week we will finally do the colloquium I'm organizing with Sergio Guerra! That's a bit scary ngl. I hope everything goes well!
Granada, 20th June 2025
Hi! This was Corpus week, which meant we did not work on Thursday. Still, I definitely did the 40 weekly hours. It was a bit crazy and there were many things that required my immediate attention, but everything is fine now. I can finally enjoy the Corpus and I believe next week will be more chill (or at least I hope so!)
Granada, 13th June 2025
This week was both very intense and quite chill. Which is to say that I didn’t have that many meetings, I’m using my recently gained time (after finishing teaching) to advance on my research and I’m not very stressed. However, Wednesday was quite intense: Mike Thelwall gave a very interesting talk on the use of AI in research evaluation, we had to examine the students and I had many managemential tasks that required my attention. So, overall, I’m quite exhausted and I welcome the weekend with open arms.
Oh, and my most recent work got accepted as a poster presentation at STIENID-2025. See you in September, Bristol!
Santander, 6th June 2025
Well, I’m in Santander. Given nothing required my presence in Granada, I decided to work from home during the week - and by home I mean my parent’s home. The weather was amazing and I was still connected to Granada via online meetings, so this change felt good. I graded the exams and some essays, so I officially finished teaching the university course! Crazy! Moreover I had some meetings and I’ve made huge advances on two papers that, due to teaching and everything else, had moved forward slower than I would have liked. So, yeah, I feel great! See you next week!
PD: Look at this delicious spanish omelette I had this week. I love Santander.
Granada, 30 May 2025
I don’t mean to sound workaholic, but this week had just the right amount of stress to keep me going at a very nice pace and to be able to see how things are finally going somewhere. I had meetings with many different people and I feel I’ve learned something from all of them. Moreover we had the reading club of the month (see tweet I used in the presentation) and I finished the course I was teaching. Wild. Not gonna lie, I’m glad I’ll have more time to research but I’m going to miss the students a little bit.
Granada, 23rd May 2025
I would describe this as a regular working week. Some meetings (not too many), some progress (enough of it, I hope) and some cool new endeavours. Next week is the last week of teaching, which is kind of crazy. Teaching is a huge amount of work but I must admit I will miss it a little bit.
Granada, 16th May 2025
This was a chill week. No deadlines, almost no meetings as well. I have not been able to work as much as a I wanted on some projects because I require some feedback to move on with some things, which feels a bit frustrating. However, there is always something to do, so I have not been wasting my time either.
This Monday we invited Alicia Martorell to give a talk in our class on her experience as a professional translator and the tool she uses. I think the students liked it a lot and I did too!
Granada, 9th May 2025
Hello! Intense week! The literature review is officially out…you can check it out here! I’m so happy that I could cry. This week I finally taught again (only three more weeks to go!), I had some meetings, kept on working on many things and was able to enjoy another Humans on AIr conference, this time on AI, translation and uncertainty. Once again, very insightful.
Granada, 2nd May 2025
I can’t believe April is over. Time flies when there are so many holidays! Now we’re entering the last month of teaching (crazy!). This week I haven’t had the chance to do it, though, since there was a national blackout (lol) and then we had holidays again. However, I had the chance to attend a very interesting U^CHASS seminar on technology and language, as part of the Humans on AIr conference series. It was extremely interesting, I can’t wait for next week’s seminar!
Granada, 25th April 2025
This was a very nice week. The return to work after the holidays feels pretty chill without any deadline on sight (just the ones we impose ourselves, I guess). This week we celebrated the Day of the Faculty, we had a UCHASS meeting and we resumed teaching. Moreover, it’s the first week without Vicky in the office. I’m happy she’s doing her research stay at CWTS but we miss her! Bittersweet feeling.
Oh, I can’t believe I almost forgot to mention this: JASIST accepted our paper! I did a literature review on gender and science using bibliometric methods and, after 15 months of peer reviews, they accepted it! Surreal!
Granada, 11th April 2025
Holidays are almost here and we all know it! This week has been more chill, we are all quite tired from such a long March and we are very ready to spend 10 days relaxing and getting energy for a great comeback. Still, I’ve been doing things. More remarkably, I finished the STI submission and could finally focus on other stuff, mainly teaching and other research papers that are on their way :) Well, see you in two weeks folks!
Granada, 4th April 2025
Thank god for that extension! Conference organizers gave us an extra 10 days to finish the submissions for STI2025, which made my week way more chill. I’m almost finished anyways, but it’s good to know I have a couple more days to polish the submission calmly. This week I’ve mostly been focused on that. I’ve also had a few meetings, my students had to do an exam (which most of them passed) and the sun is doing its work, so life is more than good :) See you!
Granada, 28th March 2025
Another intense week! For some reason there were many meetings and many things to do. I need to make time to prepare the STI submission (deadline is next Friday! aah!). I’m tired but excited, because things are working out and I feel like March was the hard month in terms of classes and deadlines, but from April onwards I think life will be more chill. Let’s see!
This is a graph that took a while to look good. I thought this very bugged version looked kinda cool though. There are cathedrals everywhere for those with the eyes to see.
Granada, 21st March 2025
Very intense week, and I feel extremely tired. The classes are going fine (I think!) and Alicia Martorell will give a talk on the course in May, which will be very cool. This Wednesday we saw Lynne Bowker talk about translation and AI and all projects are moving at a more than reasonable pace. Also, very good news, my article on women in science in Spain got published! Available here!
Granada, 14th March 2025
Morning! Another week has passed! It felt like a month, not gonna lie. It doesn’t stop raining, which does not help morale, but we’ll survive. I had a couple of meetings, kept on working on my research, taught the university course and participated in this YoSigo course on doctoral research stays (if you want to see the video, it’s here!). Yup, I think that’s everything. My innie says goodbye for the week!
Granada, 7th March 2025
Nice week! I think teaching is going pretty well, at least better than two years ago. That doesn’t stop me from dreaming about teaching, I guess it’s still a big deal for me. Regarding the thesis, I feel like I’ve made a lot of progress this week. There were some things that I hadn’t had the time to start before this week and now I’m finally working on them, which feels great. See you all tomorrow (8m!) in the streets :)
Here's a picture from the U-CHASS meeting a few weeks ago!
Granada, 27th February 2025
This was a short week. Tomorrow is the day of Andalucía, hence we do not work. Suddenly there are many things to do. Not only do I have three article revisions to go through, but I’m also teaching, preparing two conference abstracts and finishing another paper. Honestly, writing that down has stressed me a little. It’s not the bad kind of stress though, but the one that motivates me to work (I hope that didn’t sound too workaholic). Anyways, there are always times to relax and today we had a very nice reading club with other U-CHASS members :)
Granada, 21st February 2025
Cool week! I started teaching again, and I think it’s going to be more chill than it was two years ago. Last time I had to teach this course I was so nervous and inexperienced that it required a lot of effort, and I think that past endeavour is paying off now. But let’s not get ahead of ourselves and see how it goes :) Oh, this is the website we're going to be using!
This week we had an UCHASS meeting, I kept on working on some papers and some revisions and I met with Sergio and Thamy to work on our individual projects! I really enjoy working with other PhD students. The freedom is a bit scary but I’m eager to see what we’re able to do by ourselves.
Granada, 14th February 2025
As you may have noticed, there was no update last week. That’s because I was super sick! Everyone has been getting sick since Christmas, and last week it was my unpleasant turn. I did not have fun at all and I’d rather work double hours than be sick like that again. I’m finally at work and living my normal life again, which now means participating in the MOOC, keep on working on my projects and getting ready for next week: on Monday we start teaching again! I’m not as nervous as I was two years ago but I cannot lie, this is very exciting! Let’s see how this year’s experience goes :)
Granada, 31st January 2025
Hello! This was a good week. Lots of productive days which led to sending the revision of a paper back to the journal (I’m embarrassed to say how long it took me to create that figure) and some productive meetings. Moreover, the MOOC in which I participate yearly started again! Let’s hope students learn a lot this time as well! I also enjoyed the time outside of work very much. What can I say, I love my routine and I love Granada.
Granada, 24th January 2025
Hi all! This was a nice and routine-coded week. I’ve had some meetings to move forward on the projects I’m working on and I feel like I’m almost catching up with some errands I’ve had to do since before going to the Netherlands. So, life is chill & good and things are slowly working out :)
Plus I’m reading Theorizing Patriarchy and finding it super insightful!
Granada, 17th January 2025
First (full) week of the year! To be honest, I’m quite excited about work right now. I’ve changed offices and I see more people now, which definitely makes a difference and it encourages me to work harder. I’m working on the two revisions I have to do and on preparing the course! Moreover, today we had the first reading club of the year (thanks Aritz for the lesson on topic modelling!) and Sergio and I started our project together! Exciting times are ahead :))
Granada, 10th January 2025
And we’re back! After a much needed Christmas break (which I spent in lovely Santander), I’m back in Granada to go back to work and to my routine! I’m very happy to be back here. I’m not original at all in this, but I feel like Granada may be one of the best places to live in the world. This week I’ve been working on two paper reviews and on remembering everything I was doing before the break. I’m also starting to prepare for the course I will start teaching in February (the same one I taught two years ago). Excitingggg
Granada, 20th December 2024
I’m back in Granada! What a week! I’ve seen the sun again, I’m quickly seeing all my friends before the winter break and I went back to my office for the first time in three months! Everything feels shiny and exciting, and although my time at TU Delft was great (and very productive), I’m very happy about being back in Granada. As it always happens before the Christmas break, there’s not much going on, we’re all working on our things to try and do as little as possible during the holidays.
Oh, and this week marked the middle of my PhD. I started exactly two years ago and I have two more to go. Crazy how time flies and how much one can learn in two years.
See you in 2025!
Delft, 13th December 2024
The adventure has come to an end! Today marks my last day at Delft. It feels surreal to write that. Forgive me if I sound a bit cliché, but these past three months have felt both incredibly long and astonishingly short. I think back to September, filled with nerves about STI and the move; October, marked by data challenges; and November, when everything started to fall into place. And now, here we are. I’m truly grateful for this experience, especially for having conducted my research stay with Tina. I'm equally excited to go back to Spain, I miss my home and my people. Christmas will be the perfect time to cozily reflect on everything that happened these last months and to think about where things are going. Can’t wait! See you in Spain :)
Delft, 6th December 2024
Just one week left! Mixed feelings about it. I've loved the experience here but I also really miss Granada and I’m excited about being in my home again, especially since Christmas holidays are just around the corner!
This week I had quite a few meetings to discuss and advance on different projects. We also interviewed Clara Calero from CWTS for the third season of Bibliometría o Barbarie (coming to your platform of choice very soon). I also worked at CWTS all Wednesday, which was very cool and I learned things about daily life at this prestigious centre that I wouldn’t have known otherwise. It was sadly my last time there until the future, but since the coordination meeting of Rodrigo’s team took place, I was able to learn a lot (as always) and left the place in a high note.
Delft, 29th November 2024
Only two more weeks left in Delft 😳 This week was more chill. I had some meetings (as usual) and we had the second reading club session of the season, this time including people from U-CHASS! I hope I did a good job as a presenter. No one complained, so I’ll take it as a good sign.
Moreover, I’m on Bluesky now! This is my profile :)
Delft, 22nd November 2024
What a week! I had a meeting with Tina, Nico and Zaida to discuss the project that brought me to Delft and things are looking good! We survived the data-cleaning phase and cool things are on the way😎
Then, on Wednesday I had two presentations! During the morning, the PhD Forum of the Faculty of Electrical Engineering, Mathematics and Computer Science (EWI) of TU Delft organized a PhD Day. The event focused on collaboration of PhDs with other PhDs and I gave a small talk on my experience collaborating with other PhDs and on why someone from social sciences would want to collaborate with someone from STEM. During the afternoon I went to the CWTS to give a talk on the coordination meeting of Rodrigo Costas’s team. What was supposed to be a 20 minutes talk turned into an hour discussion of both things I presented (my work on TU Delft and the work on contributions statements we published last week). It was truly great, it was very cool to me seeing the interest that the work we’ve been doing raised. It really gave me a lot of energy to keep going :)
Now a friend is visiting me in Delft, so it’s my duty to introduce her to everything I’ve learned about the Dutch during this and previous experiences (gezellig, tikkie, bitterballen, etc.). See you next week!
Delft, 15th November 2024
Another week went by! The project is going so well!! I had a very fruitful meeting this Thursday and it looks great :) I can’t wait to finish it and share it with the world. Apart from working on that I’ve been progressing on other two papers and realising I only have one month left here. Crazy!
Check out the blog entry I mentioned last week! I may be biased but I think it's a nice read. Aaaand I can also finally share the work we've been doing on contribution statements! The preprint is here :)
Here’s a picture of a PhD Defence I went to see this Wednesday. Pretty cool stuff.
Delft, 8th November 2024
Another nice week in Delft. I’ve had meetings to prepare for ESSS 2025 (it will take place in Granada!), to prepare a PhD event here in Delft, at the CWTS and with Zaida and Tina. I’ve also kept on working on what brought me here and on the project on contributions in Africa. Oh, and I’ve prepared a note for nadaesgratis, a Spanish blog on economics and politics. It will come out next week, don’t miss it!
Delft, 1st November 2024
Interesting week! First things first: we started the new season of the reading club! This first session was between Vicky, Sergio & I, but for the next one we may have people from U-CHASS joining! Exciting!
Moreover, I’m still working on my research stay project, and after a few weeks of uncertainty I think things are starting to find their way.
I hope things keep on going this well for the rest of the stay, because the time change is definitely going to be a challenge!
Delft, 25th October 2024
Another week in Delft goes by! I had very productive meetings with Tina and I think things are going quite nicely :) I also attended a meeting to discuss the future of ESSS and I sent one paper to a journal (wish me luck!).
Moreover, today I visited the CWTS for the first time. It was very cool to see the place where so many cool bibliometric things happen and to put faces to very big names in this research area. Also, Leiden is a very nice city!
Delft, 18th October 2024
Cool week! On Monday I presented my work on the PhD seminars they organise in the department. I got really interesting questions and, in general, people seemed interested in what I was saying, which is always a nice thing!
On another note, I’m not advancing as fast as I would like on the project that led me here, but that’s research: things (almost) never go as quickly as you think they may go. But it’s okay, doing a good job takes time!
Oh, and today we have a department dinner on a beach in Den Haag, which should be cool!
Here’s a picture of the book I’m reading now. Which, given my PhD topic, I’m ashamed to admit I hadn’t read it yet. Please forgive me Caroline Criado.
Delft, 11th October 2024
Rain again. At least it’s only literally, not metaphorically. Things are going well, I had a meeting with Tina and I’m excited about what will come. Oh, and I finally read Data Feminism by Catherine D'Ignazio and Lauren F. Klein. What a delightful read! I highly recommend it to everyone interested in science (yes - science in general).
Delft, 4th October 2024
Second week here! I’m definitely getting more used to this schedule (I’m even feeling hungry at 11:30…sorry Spain) and life in Delft can be quite nice, especially when it’s not raining. This week I have been finishing two articles and working on my project with Tina, things are moving quite quickly! The magic of focusing on only one thing at a time, I guess.
I ran out of academic pictures, so here’s one of a cool bird I saw the other day.
Delft, 27th September 2024
Hi! The word “routine” finally appears in my life! Given the last few months, that sounds extremely appealing to me. Plus, I’m starting quite a nice routine here in Delft. This campus is great, the people are very nice and I’ve had the chance to see a PhD defence this week, and they are quite different from those done in Spain. Moreover, since this is my third time living in The Netherlands I’m having lots of fun hanging out with my old friends here. If we ignore the weather, I’m having the time of my life :)!
PD: This is my new (temporary) office!
Berlin, 20th September 2024
What a week!!!! On Monday I went to TU Delft for the first time. I spent a lot of time with Tina discussing my stay there and the STI presentation, I got a desk to work there and I met most of the people from the department. The building is amazing (they have a boiling-water tap???), people are extremely nice and I’m honestly very excited to see how these three months go. What can I do? I truly love The Netherlands.
Then, on Tuesday I travelled to Berlin for the STI conference. On Wednesday the first day of the conference took place, and I spent the day listening to very interesting and clever presentations, then I went to the WISP (Women in Science Policy) talk and I had dinner with (objectively) the coolest people. On Thursday I presented my work and didn’t die, which I consider a great achievement. I also got really nice comments that will truly help me develop my work further. Oh, and the conference dinner took place at the Natural Museum! Crazy! Then, Friday was a day for presentations and mostly reflections on what we had seen during the week. I was very nervous about STI but I’m very happy about how everything went and I’m very excited about next year’s STI in Bristol! I hope to see the amazing people I met these last few days there! For now, I need to sleep for four days straight.
Delft, 13th September 2024
So…now I’m in Delft! I’ve spent this last week saying goodbye to Granada, and now I’m starting a three month research stay in The Netherlands, which is quite exciting! I’ll be working at Delft University of Technology with Gabriela F. Nane (from now onwards, Tina) and learning all there is to know about Bayesian Networks! I’m very excited to see how work gets done in other places and to live in this country again, I can’t help but love it.
Now I’m finishing my STI presentation and trying to be cool about it (and mostly failing). I’m quite nervous about my first international congress presentation, let’s see how it goes!
Vienna, 6th September 2024
Intense way of starting the academic year! I was lucky enough to be part of the ESSS (European Summer School for Scientometrics) staff, so I got to spend one week surrounded by people with shared interests and great knowledge! Plus I got to see Vienna, which was an incredible experience as well. Here’s a picture of me presenting some ideas on ChatGPT. Can’t wait for next year’s ESSS in Granada!
Atlanta, 26th July 2024
This was one of the craziest weeks this year. Vicky, Thamy and I travelled to Georgia Tech University (Atlanta) to spend the week at the RESPECT workshop, hosted by Cassidy R. Sugimoto, Diego Kozlowski and Thelma Monroe-White. It was an incredible week thanks to the other fellows, the city and the university. It was also my first time in the United States, so definitely an experience I will not forget!
Santander, 19th July 2024
Last “normal” week of the year. I’ve been just finishing some things that we wanted to do before summer holidays (mostly graphs), and getting ready for next week: Vicky & I are going to Atlanta! We are going to enjoy a working week at Georgia Tech University, with the RESPECT fellowship. I’m a bit nervous, let’s see how it goes!
Santander, 12th July 2024
I'm tempted to copy-paste what I said last week. Now I’m in Santander, I escaped the infernal Granada heat and I can breathe and go outside, which is rather lovely. Work is chill, everything is about finishing things, and the second episode of the podcast is ready: listen to it here :)
Granada, 5th July 2024
Average week, trying to finish some things before the summer holidays.
The first episode of the podcast is out now!
Granada, 28th June 2024
Summer is here. The heat and the end-of-the-year tiredness are definitely not a good combo. I’ve been working on two things that I couldn’t do during the busy daily academic routine, and it feels good to finally advance with them. The goal now is to finish some things before summer, so after that I can go to Delft without many undone things. Wish me luck :)
Oh, and two papers in which I participated got accepted for oral presentation at STI!! aaaahh!!
And last but not least, I'm obsessed with the BiblioMaker of the University, printing in 3d is amazing. I love libraries.
Granada, 21st June 2024
This week was more relaxed than the last one, for sure. I finished two big things I was working on, had a couple of meetings, and finally found a place to stay while doing my research stay in Delft.
Granada, 14th June 2024
Hi! This was an intense week! François van Schalkwyk was here and we kept on working on a very cool project regarding contributions and Africa. Moreover, the JIFFI (PhD Interdisciplinary conference of the University of Granada) took place and I presented on Wednesday. I think it went well! You can find my slides here :)
Granada, 7th June 2024
I’m slowly getting used to not having to teach anymore. I miss teaching about libraries and discovering more about that fascinating world, but I must admit this extra time feels great to work on my thesis. As a perfect wrap up for the course, my students and I went to the Mediopan fair, an event where the library of the Casa de Porras was officially opened. With regards to other parts of my work, I’ve been working as usual.
Granada, 31st May 2024
Fun (& short!) week here in Granada. I finished the course on libraries I’ve been teaching for three months, which feels a bit crazy. And, following the tradition established three weeks ago, there was a U-CHASS meeting, this time with Julián Cortés. Oh, and I tried the 3d printer from the BiblioMaker of the Faculty of Sciences. Suuuper cool
Granada, 24th May 2024
This was a nice week :) I finished the methodological course and I had the last “normal” week with my students (the exam will take place next week and then the school year will be over!). Moreover, there was another U-CHASS meeting and a reading club! I still did manage to work a bit on some writing for an article, not as much as I would have liked, but surely as much as I could. Let’s see how next week goes!
Granada, 17th May 2024
This was a week full of meetings, seminars, courses, progress. I liked it. I got to see Myroslava Hladchenk talk about Ukranian’s research system (see pic!), I started a course on qualitative methodologies and feminist discourse analysis, Javier Pérez Iglesias gave a talk on my course on libraries and we recorded one episode for the BoB podcast at Radiolab. I’m extremely tired, but I like doing such diverse things. This job is cool.
Granada, 10th May 2024
Once again, a great week for the course I’m teaching. We visited the BiblioMaker at the Faculty of Sciences, and it was extremely interesting (I want to do a 3D printing course now). Moreover, Myroslava Hladchenko is doing a short research stay here, and we got to meet her! Last but not least, some projects that I felt were a bit left behind after the STI submission are coming back to life again, and it feels great. Let’s see how they evolve :)
Granada, 3rd May 2024
This has been a weird and short but cool week. I’ve been working on things that I had left on hold for the STI submission deadline last week and I feel way more relaxed now. Moreover, classes this week were very very cool. On Tuesday, we had an online talk by Arantza Mariskal, head of the Medialab at Tabakalera (Donostia) and on Thursday we went to Casa de Porras to participate in the “Beginning of a Library”, the University project that wants to create a popular library at the commemorative Albayzin’s building.
Granada, 26th April 2024
What a week!!! STI's deadline turned out to be quite stressful to me, and after that I had to keep on working on other projects, so this week was one of those weeks in which it feels like 24 hours a day is just not enough time. Still, I was able to enjoy teaching and the reading club this Friday! Here’s a picture of us having fun while discussing this month’s reading
Granada, 19 April 2024
What a week! I've had many meetings (with my fellows from RESPECT, to record some podcast episodes, to prepare for the STI, to prepare other submissions...) and Antonio Collados came to my class to give an amazing talk on libraries and art. It was truly illuminating, can't wait for the second part of the talk at Casa de Porras!
Here's an old pic of a last reading club!
Granada, 12 April 2024
This was a chill week. We've been working on some STI 2024 submission, Wences gave us a course on Google Big Query and I've kept on doing my usual tasks
Also, teaching is going great! Students had a mid term exam and they all passed, and the fanzine is looking good (see pic!)
Granada, 5th April 2024
We’re back! After a much needed break (and a very rainy Holy Week), I’ve had quite a productive week. I’ve had a couple of meetings and kept on working on my application for STI 2024 and other research papers.
This was an extraordinary week for the course I’m teaching. On Tuesday, Can Lejárraga came to the class to give a talk on fanzines, since the final project of the course is a fanzine. Then, on Friday we visited the Public Library of Cartuja-Almanjayar. I want to thank them both for being so open about their work and for being willing to spend some time with us!
Granada, 22nd March 2024
Happy spring! After last week's lack of productivity I have been working eagerly on this one. I have worked on materials for the course I’m teaching, I’ve had a couple of meetings and I’ve been working hard on future papers. Moreover, to have a great beginning of Holy Week, we had the reading club of the month. Thanks Aoxia for such a nice presentation!
PD. Here's a trial picture of the library of the future we are developing for the course :)
Granada, 15th March 2024
Not gonna lie, this was not my best week. I was sick most of the time and could not really work that much. When I could, I did try to do some graphs, work on papers and on my classes!
Here's the link of the course I gave last week :)
Granada, 8th March 2024
As every 8th March, the only thing I can think of is how much is still to be done. So, let’s get to it.
I’m still teaching, working on papers and today I did a Yosigopublicando course on how to survive teaching (appropriate).
Today’s picture is just a reminder that you can find the “Bibliotecarias audaces” (“Bold librarians”) exhibition online here :)
Granada, 1st March 2024
Hi! This was a nice week, with a short break on Wednesday to celebrate Andalucía's day. After a month of work the MOOC finished and I have been doing my usual tasks, so nothing new, I think!
Granada, 23rd February 2024
This was such a good week. I started giving the course on libraries and I feel it’s going to be very cool: students seem to be invested in doing cool things and I am too. Let’s see how it goes! I also kept on working as a teacher on the MOOC and had quite some meetings, as usual.
Granada, 16th February 2024
Hello! Good week: I met with Antonio Collados to discuss some elements of the course I start next week (omg), there was an U-CHASS meeting and there are new people on the team (hi Ian!). Moreover, we had a cool international night and got the chance to try many new and delicious foods :)
Granada, 9th February 2024
Good morning! This week was cool: We had some very productive meetings, learned about Big Query, interviewed Pablo Simón and the MOOC course just started! I’m preparing the course I’ll be starting in two weeks and I think it’s going to be cool (here’s the website!)
Here's a picture from last weekend's walk with the team (more about the experience here)
Granada, 2nd February 2024
This was a nice week, a bit of everything happened: We recorded another episode for the podcast, I had some meetings (including a RESPECT one), I kept on working on some papers and I'm preparing the course. And I'm not stressed about it, which is the best part!
PD: Enjoy a picture of Vicky from last week’s reading club!
Granada, 26th January 2024
Hello! I’m back in Granada and I have been working non-stop, as usual. Today I had a meeting with the team I met last week in Madrid and we held the first reading club meeting of the year! Coincidentally, it was also Vicky’s birthday: congratulations! Not much to say this week - just that Anatomy of a Fall was amazing
Madrid, 19th January 2024
This was a nice week :) I’ve spent most of it in Madrid, at the “Tejiendo redes entre lo humano y lo social: I Jornadas predoctorales del CCHS”. There, I got to present my research to other PhD students from the Humanities and Social Sciences Humanities Centre (CSIC - CCHS). Moreover, I got to spend some time with Zaida and I met many interesting people from ACUTE. On the other hand, I have been working on my usual tasks and preparing for the course I’ll start teaching in a month!
Granada, 11th January 2024
And we're back! After a much-needed winter break, we're back at it again! And I could not have asked for a better return to work: I submitted an article and a letter to the editors I wrote was accepted for publication! The energy these good news gave me is being directed towards many new cool projects! I am currently working on a couple of articles, preparing the course I will start teaching next month and putting together next week’s presentation at “Tejiendo redes entre lo humano y lo social: I Jornadas predoctorales del CCHS” in Madrid :)
Granada, 22th December 2023
Weird pre-Christmas week! It's time to say goodbye, go home for a bit and think about the year we just lived. At least to me, it has been a crazy ride: teaching, talking about my research, publishing, learning... It may feel like I'm doing regular things on a daily basis, but once I look back I realise how much things can change from one year to another...Let's keep it this way & see you next year :)
Granada, 15th December 2023
This week we had the chance to speak with Julia Melkers about our PhD research, and it was great :) Moreover, we had the last reading club session of the year and it rained in Granada. Last but not least, today is a very important day: I’m going to a concert of the band that created the song “Niños furbito y niñas lo que sea” (my thesis title!). What a great day for science!
Granada, 7th December 2023
We got a short working week here in Spain, so I have not been doing as much as usual. I have been working on my main two papers and Vicky, Aoxia & I are planning a new very technical paper, which should be cool to do (and a challenge, for sure). Moreover, we are preparing for Julia Melkers’s visit next week. Exciting!
I did update my life graph on this website, it was about time! Apparently, I’ve already been in Granada for a year 😳
Granada, 1st December 2023
As always, we've had a week full of work here in Granada. I'm about to send my first paper to Jasist (wow), Vicky and I applied for an Overton scholarship (wish us luck!) and I did my first #YoSigoPublicando course (and I think it went well!). Furthermore, I'm working on other projects and, innevitably, thinking about Christmas. Over and out!
Granada, 24th November 2023
Hello! Monday's event was a success! As an organiser, I am extremely happy with how well things went - and we were not too stressed! All contributions were very interesting and we're very grateful to everyone that came and to everyone that helped us organise this :) Congrats Vicky on your first academic workshop!
I also met Thamy Choij, a fellow RESPECT participant, and we're going to do cool things together👀
Moreover, Dani & Wences presented InfluScience, which is now part of Universidad de Granada! Congrats on doing everything well!!
Granada, 17th November 2023
The mobility event is next week! It feels a bit crazy how much it takes to organize a one-day event, I can't imagine what must be like organizing a longer conference. This week I also attended the PhD Conference on Gender Studies and I'm working with Sergio Guerra (philosophy PhD student) to try and get a research grant together! Exciting! Moreover, I published this small blog entry at the EC3 website :)
Aaaand not much else to tell, just the usual work!
Granada, 10th November 2023
Intense week! I attended the Consejo de Representates de Doctorandos and met other PhD students and it was great! We are finishing the second season of the BoB podcast, I'm preparing a YoSigoPublicando course I'll give at the end of the month and I'm already thinking about resesarch stays abroad...exciting times :)
Granada, 3rd November 2023
Hi! I was about to say this was a chill week - then I realized I actually had nine meetings (including the second meeting of the RESPECT fellowship, more BoB interviews and a EC3 seminar). I guess this is the new normal!
I can see the progress in the things I'm working on, and that feels great. Here's a picture of Aoxia's presentation at the EC3 meeting :)
Granada, 27th October 2023
Hello there! Another intense week just went by, as it always happens. I've been working a lot and getting some rewards from it, which feels great. My commentary on "Introduction to informetrics" is finally out, and I just made public a preprint in which Nico & I discuss the implications of the current state of the art on gender assignment processes.
Moreover, I went to the first Open Date event organized by Medialab, in which Daniel Innerarity talked about his views on democracy, liberty and other current issues. I got to quickly interview him after the event, and it was truly a delight. For the podcast project, I also interviewed Elias Sanz Casado, which was equally enlightening and fun. Can't wait for you to listen to all the material we have already!
We also had the first session of new season the reading club! This time we got to do it with Aoxia, the exchange PhD student that shares office with us now :) As always, it was lovely and I can't wait until next month's meeting!
Granada, 20th October 2023
Hola :) This was a great week for libraries in Granada: the h.i.g.o initiative had its third meeting and Casa de Porras is starting to think of its own "beginning of a library"! Next semester I will teach a course on the social role of libraries and I’m super excited that I get to learn and experience so much about them. I’ve also been doing my usual tasks and working on the same papers I’ve talked about here before.
Moreover, I'll be giving an online course on gender name disambiguation/assignment on November 28th, you can enrol here (for free!) 🤠
Granada, 13th October 2023
Once again we had a long week over here! We met Aoxia, a new colleague that will be working with us for a couple of months, we recorded another episode of the podcast and ThinkEPI published one of my notes! This is pretty exciting, it's weird to think words I've written are out there for others to read.
Granada, 5th October 2023
Hola! Lots of work this week again, but rather than feeling tired, I feel energised by it (is this some workaholic behaviour? I hope not). I’ve been learning how to use Databricks, working on two papers (the literature review and that of humanities) and thinking of a new one (a super cool one, I must say), and today we had the first meeting of U-Chass, the new Unit of Excellence in Computational Social Sciences and Humanities!!!
We also started recording the second season of “Bibliometría o Barbarie”. Coming to your headphones very soon.
PD: That's me during the defence of my research plan :)
Granada, 29th September 2023
Uf. I feel like the backpack I'm constantly carrying around suddenly weighs 10 kilos less! I finally defended the PhD research plan and I went pretty well. The comments I got were extremely useful and now I feel ready and energised to get to work and do the best PhD possible (after the weekend).
Moreover, we had the first RESPECT meeting this week! I think it went great, and I love the idea of creating such a safe space that allows young researchers to talk about our research and also (and potentially more importantly?) about how we handle academia and our feelings about the challenge of including our identities in our research.
I also visited Medialab and let’s just say that the second season of BoB is on its way!
Granada, 22nd September 2023
Things are going pretty well! I'm already used to the routine and this week I've been working mostly on the humanities article and on the PhD defence I have next week! Since I'm still in my first year, I have to defend my thesis plan and show how great it is. Not gonna lie, this makes me quite nervous, but I'm preparing it well, so it should be fine! [See next week's entry to see how (un)well it went!]
Granada, 15th September 2023
This has been a chill week. I've been working and mastering R (it does not hate me anymore, look at the predictions I'm finally being able to do) and reading some things on libraries as social spaces, for the course I'm teaching next term. Moreover, we're finishing an article on humanities and I couldn't be more excited! It will (most likely) be the first time I appear as author of a paper😎
Granada, 8th September 2023
We managed to get through the first week! It has been the perfect amount of challenging and I'm very excited about the work we're doing. I'm finishing one article and working on another (R is not being nice to me today but it's okay, I'll figure it out). Plus university was weirdly quiet this week, but next week reality begins! I hope everyone (teachers, students & staff) a great start of the academic year :)
Granada, 1st September 2023
And we're back! After a great summer in the best place in the world (Cantabria), I feel energized and ready to start this new year. Things have changed: there are still many new challenges to face and activities that are still new to me, but I already know where my office is and how to do the basic things, and that makes a huge difference. Let's see how it goes, let the new year begin :)!
Santander, 28th July 2023
Summer holidays are finally here! I'll be brief: it's hard for me to truly grasp everything that has happened this year but I am extremely happy with the work I've done, the people that I work with and everything we're accomplishing together. Here's to a good year :) Now, let's chill for a bit! 😎
Granada, 21st July 2023
Summer is almost here! And next time I update this journal I'll be 25😳 I'm saying goodbye to Granada and trying to finish some things before leaving for Cantabria to enjoy the summer break there. It's that time of the year to sit and think about everything that has happened since the academic year started. However, I feel I may go crazy if I do that: everything has changed radically and I’ve encountered quite a lot of new experiences. It is possible that, If I think about it too much, I may feel like those things didn't happen to me but to someone else.
PD: Here’s a picture of the ex-libris my friends gave me as an early birthday present. Cool, huh?
Granada, 14th July 2023
What a great week: no deadlines, just thesis. I'm seeing a lot of progress in the disambiguation of gender from names algorithm that I'm working on, I'm reading calmly and I finished most of the small things that I wanted to get done before summer. Plus, I went to an Arctic Monkeys concert! Life is good.
Granada, 7th July 2023
Summer is almost here and I personally cannot hide my excitement! Last Sunday I attended the ISSI Doctoral Forum and it went great. I got a lot of feedback on the thesis and the projects I'm working on right now, and I got to see what other PhD students like me are doing! To anyone considering whether to apply for this programme or not, do it!
After the ISSI, I've experienced quite a chill week. There are no more classes or conferences for me this month, and I'm catching up on some things I left a bit behind and just working calmly and steadily :)
Granada, 30th June 2023
I feel like this has been the most chill week in months, which is crazy, given I've still prepared a presentation for the ISSI 2023 Doctoral Forum! The DF takes place this Sunday and I'm a bit nervous (you can see my presentation here!).
I'm basically just doing my thing and trying not to die (It's 35ºC outside as I'm writing this).
Granada, 23rd June 2023
That was fun 😎 This week I attended my first PhD-Congress, got to talk about my thesis in front of people (and I didn't die), and got to hear the extremely interesting research that is being done in all disciplines all around Spain! I didn’t know what a poster session was going to feel like, and I ended up loving it! I really am obsessed with this format of sharing knowledge. You can check out my poster here :)!
Moreover, Nico, Vicky and I sat down to organize the next academic year and let's just say it's going to be quite a ride. Exciting!
Granada, 16th June 2023
Not my best week, that's for sure. The stress of these past few months + all the new stuff that is coming in the next few weeks is finally having physical effects (I'm sick). I feel the need for a holiday, and thankfully they are on their way. Fortunately, I've done cool stuff like these graphs, having a reading club and preparing my first ever poster! Let's hope it looks good when printed!
Today also marks the first half-year anniversary of the PhD, which feels absolutely crazy. I'm very happy with how I've been doing so far and pretty excited to see what the next three and a half years will bring! 😎😎
Granada, 9th June 2023
This week has been absolutely crazy! Cassidy R. Sugimoto, Diego Kozlowski, Tina Nane and Vincent Larivière spent the week here, working alongside Nico, Vicky & I on the Compare project. It's hard to put into words the mix of feelings I've felt and thoughts I've had: I was impressed, encouraged, uplifted and inspired (and exhausted!). Let's keep this collaboration going!
Granada, 2nd June 2023
Hello! This is the last week of my first university course and I'm feeling *slightly* emotional about that. This is the last slide I've made for them :):
I've attended a course to learn NVivo, I'm working with R and reading a lot (as usually). Last but not least, I finished Equity for Women in Science by Cassidy R. Sugimoto and Vincent Larivière, and it was great!
Granada, 26th May 2023
Hello! I've worked a lot this week: I've been writing my first two articles, coding, organizing a special for my students (thanks for everything, Judit!) and reading the new book that just arrived to the university library: Equity for Women in Science: Dismantling Systemic Barriers to Advancement by Cassidy R. Sugimoto and Vincent Lariviere.
And the coolest album by Miya Folick just came out :)!
Granada, 19th May 2023
Exhausting week, for no apparent reason. I've had a couple of meetings and the thesis is looking great and exciting :)!
My friend Ana Sánchez Asenjo will give a (splendid) seminar to my translation students today and yesterday I had the chance to see Juan Gorraiz in action in an OA course (see photo).
(It's finally raining, I'll take it as a good sign)
Granada, 12th May 2023
This is the best week of the year (Eurovision's week), but I feel like not much has happened these days, work-wise. I'm quite proud of myself for how I'm managing R stuff (if my September self looked at me now, they would be extremely impressed) and I'm just doing my thing, calmly: reading, writing, programming, teaching, reading some more. I'm starting to think that no news is good news, and I will miss this calm once the end of the academic course responsibilites start to arrive.
As a highlight, I got a second screen for my place, so now I can be as efficient at home as I'm in the office :)!
Granada, 5th May 2023
As always, this has been an interesting week. We've had two public holidays, one of them being my first time celebrating the Día de la Cruz (see picture). The days off have been fun, and working has not been bad either. At the end of the month I will defend my thesis plan infront of UGR evaluators, and I'm perfecting the presentation (I'm still not the best at public speaking). Vicky and I had a very productive class with Escabias on linear regression models and the literature review is slowly looking sound :)!
Granada, 28th April 2023
It has been an interesting (and torrid) week. I've been doing my usual tasks (teaching, writing, reading, working with Python, etc.) and I've also been an active member of University of Granada's democracy. This wednesday I was part of the polling station for union elections. It was an exhausting but interesting experience (although, to be honest, I hope next elections are online).
Granada, 21st April 2023
Happy book's day week! We celebrated both this special week and the first anniversary of the reading club by having an unusual reading club session: we did a picnic!
Moreover, I am advancing pretty quickly on all my tasks this week and I realized students are learning things in my class (which is something I was hoping for but not at all sure of it). And I've applied for a PhD-conference, wish me luck!
PD: Gloria is not only helping me with Python, they are also an amazing artist and they made this for my office, inspired by my thesis title, the song Niños furbito y niñas lo que sea :) Plus today it's their birthday!
Granada, 14th April 2023
Hello! After a much needed break, I'm back at it again. I had a meeting with my thesis supervisors and everything is going all right :) I'm reading (I started the classic Introduction to Informetrics by L. Egghe and R. Rousseau), writing, getting frustrated with Python (thanks Gloria for all your help!) and preparing the next classes. Routine feels good.
During the holidays I read Platform Capitalism, by Nick Srnicek, it was a truly interesting and insightful read!
PD: Here's a picture of my office wall.
Granada, 31st March 2023
This week I've had another PhD course on how to write an academic paper, I've received another superb statistics class from Escabias and I've shown my students how to use Librarything (I think they liked it) (who wouldn't!).
Last but not least, on Thursday we celebrated the "Day of the faculty" and we had a day full of activites related to documentation and information. It was the greatest way to start the Easter holidays😎
Let's hope we can all rest during these small holidays and we can come back full of energy and determination to do the best science possible! 🤠💘🕊
Granada, March 24th 2023
I feel very optimistic about everything this week. Not only the literature review is going great, but I know exactly what to do in the other two papers I'm working on. Moreover, Vicky & I are taking weekly statistics lessons with Manuel Escabias, and after only two weeks I feel way more enlightened than before (see picture!). I can't wait to keep on learning! We also had a session of the reading club this week! Last but not least, Wences came to talk about Wikipedia and translation to my undergrad class and it was, as expected, an splendid performance.
Granada, March 17th 2023
Week of courses and meeting other PhD students from Universidad de Granada! We had a two-days course on teaching resources, and I got the chance to see both Nico and Dani in action during their course on digital scientific identities (see the photo!)😎 Oh, and I finally finished the syllabus of the course I'm teaching! Life will (probably) be more relaxed now.
Granada, March 10th 2023
Hello! I still feel like I devote most of my time to teaching (or thinking about teaching), but I'm way more relaxed about it than I was two weeks ago. Plus I've had a very exciting meeting with my thesis supervisors and things are looking pretty cool (Se vienen cositas).
I hope this 8th March we all had the chance to sit and think and fight a little bit. Let's keep this going...
Granada, March 3rd 2023
Once again, what a week! Not only I'm teaching a university course, but mandatory-PhD-courses season just started! I feel like days don't have enough hours to do everything I want to do, but I'm still managing to keep a decent work pace. Happy March!🌸
Granada, February 24th 2023
I just finished my first week as a university teacher😳 I still have to improve a lot of my teaching skills but I'm liking it, I think I'm going to like this experience. On a different note, the MOOC course I participate in just started and I'm focusing most of my time on the literature review and on the humanities paper.
Granada, February 17th 2023
Longest week ever! I've been preparing the uni course, the research plan, the literature review and the humanities article. I've had a lot of meetings and I feel exhausted (in a good way)! Here's a picture of Monday's EC3 meeting, when Enrique de la Fuente was presenting his research proposal
Granada, February 10th 2023
Hello there! I can't believe the words I'm writing, but I'm preparing a university course I will teach, starting this month (Documentación Aplicada a la Traducción). I'm devoting most of my time to that task, but I'm also making progress on the papers I'm working on and on the thesis research plan.
PD: I just read one of the best books I've read in my life: Nubosidad variable by Carmen Martín Gaite. The best companion for a sunny afternoon at a terrace!
Granada, February 3rd 2023
New month, new office! I finally got my desk at the PhD-students-office and it feels like the start of an exciting stage. I've been practicing how to review articles, I participated in a ICSR lab meeting and the literature review on gender and bibliometrics is looking greater than ever. Moreover, I'm preparing a Yosigopublicando course (😳) and I'm helping the EC3 group on a paper on humanities🤠☕ Oh, and I'm almost ready to defend my research plan!
Granada, January 27th 2023
Honestly, this has been a stressful week. A couple of meetings and deadlines have received all my attention and I've been quite busy. As always, organization has been as essential as oxygen. Now, I just have to keep a demanding but doable work pace. Besides, all this work is going to result in some really cool research, and I’m very excited about that🤠
PD: Check out the office pantry! Representing Costa Rica & Argentina❤️🔥
Granada, January 20th 2023
This week I started collecting my thoughts on the literature I've been reading so far, and I've been getting some very interesting insights. Moreover, it was Reading Club time! We had a lovely time discussing Nicola de Bellis's book on bibliometrics and trying mate, which Vicky made for us!
PD: I've uploaded a summary of my 2022 Goodreads data to Github. There are some cool graphs in there, check it out!
Granada, January 13th 2023
We're back to the routine! I'm not sure if it's because of the holidays, but I've been very motivated to work this week. I am now (almost) an expert on VosViewer, I've made some really cool R graphs (look right for a sneak peek of the coolness), I'm finally writing stuff and I started reading the classic Whose Science? Whose Knowledge?: Thinking from Women's Lives by Sandra Harding. In a nutshell, life is good😎☀️💛
Santander, January 6th 2023
Happy new year! Work is still not as demanding as usual, and I'm enjoying my last days in Santander. I am working a little bit on the literature review, an article on R and some of the usual tasks. I also finished Women in Science and Technology: Confronting Inequalities by Namrata Gupta. Next update will be a normal one, see you next week!
Santander, December 30th 2022
Last entry of 2022 😳 Although less intensely than usual, this week I've been doing my everyday tasks, working from home. I'm starting to shape some article ideas (hence the biblioshiny graph) and trying to picture (and being incapable of it) how 2023 is going to look, professionally speaking. Next time I update this journal it will already be 2023, so happy new year!
Santander, December 23rd 2022
What a crazy first week! As a new PhD student I've been working with VosViewer and reading lots of articles on gender and bibliometrics. I've also been to Medialab to see Wences and Daniel Torres-Salinas record a podcast on their project InfluScience and I've seen Wences give a phenomenal (and fun) last class to archaeology students. It being the last week of the year, there were lots of goodbyes before the winter break and now I'm home (Santander)! What a great week, I'm very very excited about the new year!
Granada, December 16th 2022
This was a great week! I finally signed the FPU contract which means I'm officially a PhD student😳🤠😎 So exciting! We've had another reading club session (this time on Price's The humanities of science), I finished Women in global science and I've been doing my usual tasks (which you already know if you are a loyal reader of my journal).
Granada, December 9th 2022
This week there were only three working days in Spain and I've been sick, so it hasn't been a very productive one. I have, however, been doing some reading, working with Access and the Scopus API and practicing some R. Look at this beautiful waffle chart of the places I've lived!
Oh, and I got some great news: I got a FPU fellowship! Which means I will officially start my PhD very very soon :)
Granada, December 2nd 2022
This was a week marked by routine: I've read, I've played with R, I've worked with databases. As a highlight, Wences gave the team a small course on how to use the Scopus API and it was very very very useful. Here's a picture of the man of the hour in action (we really like our new TV)
Granada, November 25th 2022
This PhD Journal is one month old and I'm still updating it! I'm a bit surprised and very happy about that. This week I've had some administrative issues (now solved) (hopefully), I've kept on reading and learning R (I made that graph myself!). I'm also fighting with the Scopus API and working with Nico and Wenceslao Arroyo-Machado on a paper on humanities. Aaaand the podcast is out! Go check it out! :)
Granada, November 17th 2022
The second season of the reading club finally started! Today we had some lovely discussions around Henry Small's "Paradigms, citations, and maps of science: A personal history", focusing on his interpretation of the Kuhn theory. Moreover, I've (almost) been able to perform the most basic graphs on R (yay!) and I've been reading a very interesting book on gender, negotiations and the workplace: Women Don't Ask, by Linda Babcock and Sara Laschever.

This week I've kept on reading, and I have organized the bibliography I have so far on gender and scientometrics using Bibliometrix, and wow! Moreover, the editing of the podcast is going smoothly, and it will be launched very very soon.

This week has been quite a ride! The cold is finally arriving to the city of Granada and with it the tissues and a theine superavit. I've finished Bibliometrics and citation analysis: From the Science Citation Index to Cybermetrics by Nicola de Bellis, which has really helped me get a more nuanced vision of what bibliometrics are. Moreover, there was a EC3 meeting and I've kept on working on R and on my first article!

I haven't started my PhD officially, but I'm already working on it. Right now I'm focusing on learning R using swirl (see proof below) and on reading articles on scientometrics and gender, since the idea for my first paper is to do a literature review on that topic. I'm basically doing what a first-year PhD student should do: learning new things like crazy.
