"What I believe about language teaching & learning"
My approach to language teaching is all about making learning meaningful, interactive, and connected to real life. Inspired by Schafer & Darcy’s (2022) idea of “speaking locally and listening globally,” I love exposing my students to different language varieties. This not only gives them a global perspective but also helps them communicate confidently with people from all kinds of backgrounds.
I keep my teaching learner-centered and hands-on. Whether it’s discussions, skits, role plays, or text analysis, I want my students to feel like they’re in the driver’s seat of their learning journey. They even get a say in choosing tasks and assignments, like analyzing videos, breaking down social media content, or creating presentations. Task-based learning is a big part of my style, with a clear flow: prep for the task, dive into it, and then reflect afterward. Collaboration is key too—pair and group activities are where the magic of shared learning happens!

Students' Feedback
"I love going to class because not only is it a fun class, but we also get to learn new and different things culturally."
"Thank you for teaching me. Even if next semester will be the final class I will always be happy and grateful that you were my teacher."
"The class is very underrated especially for language credit. The class size is generally small (like 5-7 kids big) and it's easy to talk to the professor. In other words, it's easy to work with them. Work load isn't terrible even with projects. Be aware the you do have to join a club regarding Swahili, though, it is only 1 day a week for 30 minutes to hour. Beyond that, the language itself is fun to learn and culture is interesting."
"That I had a fun time and learned a lot about Swahili in these last 2 years."
"She was very fun teacher and made sure that we always tried to have fun."
"vocab and cultural background is good. Good at explaining context and very easy to work with."
"Please take this class its fun and easy to learn."
