TEAL is designed to help teachers share and publish practical resources for English as an additional language classrooms. We understand that useful pedagogic strategy is not always empirically quantifiable. English educators have, through trial and error, found efficient modes of increasing communicative competency and linguistic proficiency that need not be equated by peer-reviewed academic journals to be valued.
We aim to create opportunities for insights and practical applications to be published and credited. Our workshops will publish free, downloadable activities shared by presenters quarterly. Our themed publication will provide opportunities to publish what works for you in your class experience.
Our open house proceedings consist of three contributions from presenters:
Downloadable blank worksheet
-this is to be used as an example and will be used in workshops to give our audience hands-on experience with your strategy
Teacher's manual-style rationale
-similar to textbook teacher's manuals, this section will explain segments of the worksheet that make the strategy and activity work
A short rationale
-the rationale should provide some insight into how or why the activity came to be. It should be no longer than one page in length, excluding references. We accept rationales that include introductions, relevant literature, and brief descriptions of methodology. It is our hope that this will allow presenters to continue on to publish a larger work with an academic journal in the future if they so choose. Our limit aims to maximize readability and make the work approachable for workshop attendees.
Handouts are copies of material used in classrooms. These should be blank and reproducible. These will be available as free downloads.
The manual page gives describes critical logistical and pedagogic considerations of your classroom solution.
The discussion introduces relevant literature and description needed to successfully implement changes in EAL classrooms.
