History of our building:
The school was built in 1957 as Hants West Rural High School. The ‘new wing’ was added in 1975, which is where the Large Gym, Family Studies Room and the cafeteria are now located. In 2003, the school became West Hants Middle School. In 2010, the school had renovations done, keeping the same physical footprint, but many internal updates were completed. In 2016 the school’s grade configuration changed from 7-9, to Grade 6-8. Our school has a lot of steps, but there is one ground level entrance and we have elevators for those who can’t mange steps.
We receive students from 6 feeder schools: Dr. Arthur Hines, Three Mile Plains, Brooklyn District, Windsor Forks, Falmouth District, and Windsor Elementary. Students come from 51 communities in West Hants. We have around 20 buses in the morning delivering students, and in the afternoon, I believe there are 18 buses.
Our students then transition to Avon View High School for Gr. 9-12. There is an Alternate School in Windsor for Middle and High School Students, West Hants Education Centre (WHEC).
