Attendance Policy Quick-Hits
As per the Nova Scotia Attendance and Engagement Policy:
At 5 absences, the classroom teacher will contact both the student and the family to inquire if any assistance is needed, or if there are extenuating circumstances for student absence.
At 10 absences, your student will be contacted by either the classroom teacher or Administration notifying of 10 absences reached.
At 15 absences, your student qualifies for an attendance contract and a parent meeting will be booked.
At 20 absences, your student has reached credit loss threshold and can lose the credit.
Sydney Academy will work with families on an individual basis if extra support is needed to improve student attendance, and each attendance issue is handled on a case-by-case basis. A reminder that an absence or an absence with notification both count towards the attendance policy. Families can check student attendance and marks through the Parent Portal at any time. You can receive login information from the Sydney Academy Main Office.
Late Policy
Sydney Academy has instituted a "Late" policy for students who arrive more than 5 minutes late to class. When a student reaches 5 "Lates" for one course, they must serve a detention during lunch.
A note that students have 5 minutes between each class to allow for movement within the building. SA lunch is 40 minutes in length, with a warning bell at 12:05 and class beginning at 12:10.
