Post-Secondary Accessibility Services (PSAS)
Post-Secondary Accessibility Services (PSAS) provides funding through the Canada Study Grant, for educational supports to remove barriers for post-secondary students such as: assistive technology, tutoring, notetaking, sign language interpreting, and attendant care.
Students with permanent disabilities, such as a learning disability, pursuing post-secondary education may be eligible for non-repayable assistance for educational disability related services and/or equipment required to participate in their program of study.
Historically, grade 12 students with a learning disability were required to provide supporting documentation in the form of a psychoeducational assessment, completed within the last 5 years, with their grant application. Due to circumstances stemming from the COVID19 pandemic, alternate documentation will currently be accepted by the Department of Advanced Education to support a learning disability diagnosis with the Canada Study Grant application.
For the 2023 - 2024 application year (2024 - 2025 year for post-secondary entrance), the following will meet the Learning Disability documentation for purposes of the grant application:
• A copy of the student’s most recent psychoeducational assessment verifying the diagnosis of a learning disability, completed by a Registered Psychologist;
o In the case that the psychoeducational assessment is older than 5 years, summary letter from a Registered Psychologist verifying the student’s learning disability o AND
• A copy of Documented Adaptations from the Grade 12 year for each post-secondary application
• If the post-secondary institution requires a current psychoeducational assessment, students may be eligible for the learning disability bursary program (through Advanced Education), which funds up to $2500 to pay for the assessment
