On this page you will find information to help guide you through the different technologies that will be used throughout the school year. It will be updated when new technology gets introduced. If you are still struggling after looking through the information posted here, please reach out to Mr. Francis for help. The tools I have selected for us to use are all free for student use and either have apps that work across platforms (ios/android) or are web based. Please note not tools will be used in all classes Pixton Comics for example is for Core French only.
Things are a little different this year. We will have some devices in classroom but not enough for everyone so I am encouraging everyone to BYOD to use in class. If you have a chromebook, laptop, ios or adroid device bring it along (with parents permission of course) to use in class. Don't worry if you don't have something. We have some in class and beyond that well figure it out. If you are bringing a device to school remember to bring the charger so you can charge it during the day!
Here are some tips to help get you digitally organized:
In your google drive create a folder for this school year. Name this folder: Grade 7 or 9 (your grade).
In your Grade 7 or 9 folder, create a folder for each course that you are taking. For example, English Language Arts, Healthy Living, Social Studies, Math, Science, etc...
As you progress through the school year, make sure to save your work in the appropriate folder.
Give each assignment an appropriate title, so when you are trying to find it later on, you know what you are looking for. (i.e. Don't leave everything titled untitled!
Make sure you are logged into your google classroom for any classes that have this set up.
Parents: you are able to sign up for google classroom summaries. These are summaries emailed out each week to parents on students progress through the assigned work in classroom.
It will show whether or not they have submitted or are missing work.
This does not replace Powerschool but does give you a snapshot of your child's progress. Click here to be brought to the google support document that details the steps to set this up. If you are still not able to set it up with the guidance of the document, contact Mr. Francis
Students will use google docs throughout the year in all classes.
Google Docs is one of the applications that can be found off the gnspes launch page or under the drop down menu from the waffle at the top right page of a students chrome browser (they need to be logged into their gnspes accounts to have this come up).
Google Slides is one of the applications that can be found off the gnspes launch page or under the drop down menu from the waffle at the top right page of a students chrome browser (they need to be logged into their gnspes account to have this come up).
Students can get a quick at a glance of all the work for their classes in one place

turning work in Google Classroom
Student work in Google Classroom has a variety of status depending on the due date and completion. It is important that students turn in digital work just as they would work completed by hand. Work that is not turned in will not be assessed until it has been turned in. The PDF explains each of the different status that a students work can have in google classroom.
Flipgrid is a website that allows teachers to create "grids" to facilitate video discussions. Each grid is like a message board where teachers can pose questions, called "topics," and their students can post video responses that appear in a tiled grid display.
Students in core french will use this website to create short comics strips that allow them to publish written work based on our class units. We will also be able to use their work as part of our reading activities.
