What is a Behaviour Specialist?
We are psychologists who work with students identified with significant behavioural challenges.
Who do Behaviour Specialists support?
We support HRCE’s students by working collaboratively with their families/caregivers, staff, and school teams. Additionally:
We support the school-based programming of individual students
We support groups of students (i.e., class-wide or school-wide behavioural consultation/intervention)
What do Behaviour Specialists do?
Every day is different. We support students, teaching staff, and school teams by:
Assessing school-based behavioural functioning (both individuals and groups of students)
Developing, implementing and evaluating non-aversive, school-based behavioural programming (both individuals and groups of students)
Providing consultation about behavioural and individualized academic programming (both individuals and groups of students)
Supporting school teams with interpretation and reporting of psychological assessment results
Providing professional development to teaching staff, EPAs, and administrators
Attending meetings with community agencies, when appropriate
Work collaboratively with the Behaviour Support Teachers (BSTs) to implement behavioural programming to support school functioning.
Where do Behaviour Specialists work?
Each of the four Behaviour Specialists support two School Learning Communities (SLC). While we are based out of HRCE’s Central Office, we work primarily in schools, with students, and teaching/educational staff. We also provide professional development to school and educational support staff.
