We want our students to reach their full potential. To reach that potential, it’s important that you come to school regularly and on time.
Right now, too many students miss too much time.
In Nova Scotia, more than 25 % miss more than 16 days a year. Research shows that poor attendance is linked to lower marks.
Regular attendance is required by all students. If a student is absent it is important for a parent or guardian to notify the school of this absence. All other absences will be considered unexcused. Parents or guardians can easily excuse students by calling and leaving a message at 902-758-4622 or by emailing blaikiekl@ccrce.ca .
**Any student seen in the building or in a location other than where they are scheduled to be, whether excused by a parent or not, shall be deemed unexcused. **
All Nova Scotia schools follow the Provincial Attendance Policy. Attendance is regularly tracked and student absences are addressed with students, parents and/or guardians at 5%, 10%, 15% and 20% of each course.
Students must provide medical documentation stating dates required to be absent from school.
Missed exams must be written on the scheduled make-up day. There may be some students who are granted exemptions. In the case of sudden illness, bereavement, or other exceptional circumstances where the student cannot write the exam, alternate arrangements will be made.
The school will attempt to inform the parent when a student is missing an exam. Without a valid medical excuse and administration approval, the student will receive a zero for that exam and their final mark will still be calculated.
Students will receive a zero for the assessment if the absence is unexcused. If the absence is medically excused, the student will have the opportunity to complete the assessment or alternate arrangements will be made.
