Mathematics 9 / Mathematiques 9 Imm

Grade 9 Mathematics is an introductory course to study algebra and geometry and to build on the skills covered through middle school. It also introduces new topics that will expand mathematical knowledge and help prepare students for senior high mathematics courses.  The course emphasizes basic computational skills, mental mathematics and estimation, problem-solving, logical thinking and reasoning. Connections to real life situations are explored throughout the course. 

Students in Mathematics 9 will explore the following topics:  

• operations with real numbers (fractions and decimals)

• order of operations

• square roots

• rational numbers

• exponents

• surface area of composite 3-D objects

• graphing and interpretation of linear data

• operations (+,-,x,÷) on polynomials

• solving equations and inequalities

• impact of bias on data sets
