More information on Pre-Primary is available at www.avrce.ca/article/pre-primary-programs
Self-Identification
The Self-Identification section is voluntary. It is important for us to know who AVRCE students are and the diversity of the communities we serve. Self-identification helps us to understand how our demographics are changing and how to best support schools and students. Self-identification helps us to be more inclusive when designating resources and personnel, to better support achievement for all students.

How to Get Bus Notices

about late or cancelled buses. Because this system sends you information specifically for the bus
routes your child takes to and from school, we no longer share late/cancelled bus notices on the radio
or www.avrce.ca.
In order to receive bus notices, you must activate your BusPlanner Parent Portal account:
Activate your BusPlanner account. Check your email for an AVRCE Transportation account
activation message or contact transportation@avrce.ca.
Log in to the BusPlanner Parent Portal. Log in to https://avrce.mybusplanner.ca/ to view your child’s
bus information and add a mobile number (your email address will already be connected to your
account).
Add your preferred mobile numbers. When logged in, click on the Parent drop-down menu and select My Account. Expand the Mobile Numbers menu and add your preferred mobile numbers. Check the box that says I want to receive text alerts, then click the Update button.
Another option for bus notices: BusPlanner Delays app. The BusPlanner Delays app is
available free wherever you access apps for your mobile device. Anyone can use this app to receive
late/cancelled bus notices, as well as widespread school cancellation and driver discretion notices.
If you have questions about your child’s bus information or need BusPlanner account activation
help, please contact our transportation staff at transportation@avrce.ca or 902-538-4641. Please
include your child’s name, civic address, and school name in emails.
Please note: We continue to use SchoolMessenger to send emails and texts to parents/guardians for

Personal Electronics Policy
Effective Sept 5, 2024, students at Hantsport School will not be permitted to have their cell phones/ personal electronics in class, this includes any accessories. In consultation with other schools, we have also decided not to allow phones during unstructured time. All students will turn off and store their electronic devices for the entire day including recess and noon.
They are a continual source of distraction for students and often lead to negative social interactions via social media and distractions from schoolwork. Teachers will take time to review this new policy in September, however, we would very much appreciate families talking to students over the summer, so they know to expect this new policy.
Students are encouraged to leave their cell phones/electronic devices at home but if they choose to bring them to school, they must stay in their lockers/backpacks for the entire day. Our middle school students have lockers, and it is important to keep locks secured and keep your combination confidential. Students will NOT be able to use their phones/electronic devices at recess or lunch.
Cell phones/electronic devices are prohibited in the washroom/changing rooms at any time.
Families are encouraged to ensure after-school plans are in place before you arrive. If an emergency arises please contact the school office. If a student feels unwell during the day they must get permission from their teacher and come to the office to contact home.
If a student needs a phone for a medical reason, please schedule a meeting with the school principal who will request consultation from the AVRCE Nurse.
Students who choose to use their cell phones/personal electronics during the school day will face progressive discipline including but not limited to confiscation of items, loss of privileges, detention, and suspension.
**Hantsport School is not responsible for lost, stolen, or damaged technology.
