Any visitor to the school, including parents and guardians, must sign in at the office upon entering the school. Parents/Guardians are not permitted to go upstairs to visit students in the classrooms as this can be disruptive. After the morning opening, parents, students and guests will have to enter through the main office.
Any student signing in late or signing out must also report to the office, and a student leaving the campus must be accompanied by a parent or guardian.
For a student to ride on a bus, for special reasons, a bus note must be made up by the office and presented to the driver at the end of the day. A note from the student’s parents/guardians must be brought into the office and will be attached to the note. The bus note can be picked up at the office at the end of the day, prior to bus departure. Students are also expected to follow the rules of the bus and can have their privileges suspended should their actions prove to be unacceptable.
Hantsport School is a Closed Campus. This means that students remain at school for the entire day once they arrive at school in the morning. There will be more information on the lunch program distributed via the newsletters.
Please make all efforts to have your child attend school on time each and every day. When a child will be or has been absent from school for any reason, we ask that parents/guardians notify the school. If your child arrives late at school (after the 8:00 bell), he/she is to report to the office for a late slip before going to class.
Parents and guardians are asked to remain outside by the gym when pick up your child at the end of the day.
Volunteers are an invaluable asset to the school community. Whether chaperoning, coaching, or helping with student transportation to extra-curricular events, all is greatly appreciated.
Any parent MUST complete a Criminal Record Check Check and be screened through the Vulnerable Sector Check before they can volunteer. These forms are available at the school office. These checks must be renewed every three years.
Students are encouraged to use school Chromebooks and electronic devices for schoolwork according to our Digital Citizenship Policy. However, cell phone use and/or texting during class time is not allowed. Taking pictures of other students and/or posting pictures on social networking sites is also not allowed.
If you need to reach your child during school time, please call the school office (902) 684-4000. Students must come to the office for permission to call home if they are not feeling well.
The school will not be responsible if personal devices are lost or stolen if they are brought to school.
We have several students in our school with severe peanut allergies (Anaphylaxis). We ask that you help us keep these students safe by not bringing products containing peanuts into the school. Classrooms with children who suffer from anaphylaxis will be closely monitored.
Parents and guardians are asked to drop their children off in the lower drop off area, and not drive up to the main doors. This area is a play area during the school day. Gates are in place as well to ensure the safety of our children.
Hantsport School offers Music classes for grades P-8. The program is in the beginning stages of being re-designed. Please stay tuned.
Hantsport School boasts a strong, varied, inclusive and enjoyable sports program. Hantsport participates in many sports throughout the year and has a “no-cut” policy in place. Students are encouraged to participate in the various activities available. For more information on the sports programs, please contact Mr. Ross or our school’s Physical Education teacher.
1. No food or drink in the gym during school hours.
2. Proper gym attire, including sneakers, must be worn during PE class.
3. Any student misusing gym equipment will be asked to leave the area.
4. Students are to respect one another and be supportive of the efforts of all involved.
Hantsport School has a no-cut practice for all extra-curricular activities. Any student who wishes to participate will do so, so long as they exhibit these behaviours:
Academics first – students must be in good standing academically and with attendance. If a student is not working to their best or is consistently in violation of the code of conduct, they will be made ineligible for participation in all co-curricular events for a period of time. At the end of that time, their efforts will be re-examined, and may then be re-admitted, should they improve their work and/or behaviour.
Students must attend school during the day to attend an event, practice or game that afternoon/evening.
Students must show a commitment to attending practices and meetings, as required, and to partake in fundraisers for the good of the team.
Students must communicate to their supervisor, in advance, if they will not be attending an event.
Students must show good sportspersonship, fair play and strong behaviour at all times.
Students Involved in sports teams must show respect to coaches, advisors and officials. The decisions of coaches at all times will be respected, and teams representing Hantsport at the District, Regional and/or Provincial levels may be comprised of those who the coach deems to be best suited. All coaches will adhere to the SSNS guidelines and will hold proper coaching certification.
Parents/guardians must sign an extra-curricular form that outlines these expectations.
The staff will regularly review each student’s academic progress. Extra-curricular events include all sports, clubs, teams, school clubs and participation in school dances. It is Hantsport School’s strong belief that should a student wish to represent their school outside of the classroom, they must first be a student in good academic standing.
Hantsport School has dances put on during the school year. The following expectations are to be observed:
Appropriate attire.
Students from grades 6-8 are permitted to attend.
Most dances run from 6:30-8:00 pm.
Students are not permitted to sign in guests from other schools.
If a student leaves the dance, they will not be permitted to re-enter, and parents/guardians will be contacted.
Smoking, alcohol and drug use is not allowed, and if a student is deemed to be under the influence of these illegal substances, they will be suspended for a minimum of five days, as per the Department of Education Policy.
Students who are suspended at the time are not permitted to attend, nor is a student on academic ineligibility.
Students must be in attendance during the school day on the day of the dance to participate.
The library is open for all students Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays for classes and during recess and lunch. Reading is required!!!
A Lost and Found section is in the main foyer for both Middle School and Elementary students. After a reasonable period of time, items not claimed will be donated to charity.
Hantsport School will send home newsletters with important dates and events. As well, copies of each newsletter will be placed on the school’s website. Texts and emails will also be sent out as reminders of up-coming events.
