Hello! My name is Paula Guy and I am so excited to be the Evangeline Middle School Counsellor for the 2025-26 school year. My goal this school year is to do my best to support our students and families in having a positive school experience.
About Me I am from New Waterford on Cape Breton Island and have spent time living in Maine, the Northwest Territories and different parts of Nova Scotia. I am a married mother of three children who all attended EMS and loved it. In my youth, I was an avid figure skater and runner. Currently, I love coffee, gardening, travelling, cheering on my kids in whatever activities they are doing and a good laugh.
Education I have masters degrees in special education and school counselling. I am currently working on a graduate diploma in educational technology. I have worked in the education field as a classroom teacher, resource teacher and school counsellor for 27 years.
What does a School Counsellor do? The focus as the School Counsellor is to support all students with their personal, social, emotional and career needs.
In an effort to positively support more students, I plan to give classroom lessons using a variety of resources including the Second Step Middle School Program and the myBlueprint digital portfolio program for grades 6-8. I also work with students individually or in small groups depending on the focus. In addition, I offer to work with families to provide assistance with accessing agencies and professionals if additional services are required.
How do referrals work? Requests for a student to see the School Counsellor can be made by the administration, teachers, families and students. I may meet with a student once but a signed consent form from the parent(s) or guardians(s) is required for students in Grade 6 to see the School Counsellor on an ongoing basis.
Schedule? I am working 100% at EMS this school year. I can be reached by email or by the main school phone lines.
Favourite Part about being a School Counsellor? I enjoy getting to know my students and collaborating with families and staff.
I look forward to a positive and successful school year!
