Dr. John C. Wickwire Academy is located in Liverpool, Nova Scotia and has a population of 386 students from grades Pre-Primary through 5.
Wickwire Family History: Dr. John Cox Wickwire was a long-time resident of Liverpool, setting up practice in 1929. Over the next 50 years, he served in a variety of professional and civic posts including MLA, town council and the school board; was president of the Public Health Association of Nova Scotia and the Medical Society of Nova Scotia.
Dr. Wickwire's achievements include the Queen Elizabeth 25th Anniversary Medal, recognition by Queens County for 50 years of hard work and outstanding service, the Nova Scotia Community Service Award, and a Doctor of Laws Degree from Dalhousie University. (from News Release (CNS916) Gov. of NS)
Dorothy Wickwire attended Dalhousie University, graduated from Teacher's College and the Conservatory of Music. She taught in Halifax. She married Dr. John Wickwire in 1929 and resided in Liverpool since that time. She was past president of Gorham Chapter, IODE; past president of the Queens General Hospital Auxiliary; member of the Zion United Church Choir for 50 years and was active in the UWC. She was a volunteer for the Heart and Stroke Foundation of Nova Scotia and was one of the original organizers of the Queens County Music Festival.
