Meet the Staff
Group #1 - English Language & Literature A (Standard Level & High Level) :
Sandy Keddy, our English Language Arts Department Head, joined the school's IB team in 2018. Her instructional responsibilities include English 10 Diploma Prep, IB English 11 & 12, Theory of Knowledge 11 & 12 and Extended Essay Coordinator. Ms. Keddy is herself an IB Diploma graduate from Parkview Education Centre, and continues to share this fantastic opportunity with all her students passionately. Ms. Keddy's background is in English, social studies, and the arts. As an Extended Essay Coordinator and Supervisor, her door is always open for extra help, literary discussion or everyday conversation.

Group #2 - French Language B (Ab Initio, Standard Level & High Level):
Céline Cusson has been a member of our IB team since 2010 and is the DELF Liaison Teacher at CHDHS. Ms Cusson's background is French, History and Drama. She has taught French for 20 years in Quebec, Saskatchewan and Nova Scotia. Ms. Cusson teaches Year 1 and 2 students as the High-Level French instructor and has been involved in various activities, including Musicals, French Club and Europe trip. Ms. Cusson is the CHDHS student council teacher advisor supporting many student engagement initiatives, improving the school climate and the experience of our students.

Nicolas Carmichael has been teaching IB French at CHDHS since 2017. He is passionate about teaching French and sees it as a core part of the IB mission of exposing students to other ways of thinking about and experiencing the world. We are excited to announce that Mr. Carmichael will not only be teaching Standard-Level French to Year 1 and 2 students; however, starting in the 2023-24 academic year, he has agreed to instruct Standard-Level IB History in French, offering our students the opportunity to graduate from CHDHS with a Bilingual IB Diploma.

Group #3 - History (Standard Level & High Level):
Tim Power has been a member of our IB team since 2006. Mr. Power’s background is in both history and English. Mr. Power is an Extended Essay supervisor to many history candidates each academic year.

Group #4 - Biology, Chemistry & Physics (Standard Level & High Level):
Peter Milne joined our IB program in 2017. Mr. Milne, a bilingual instructor, specializes in the sciences and physical education. His academic background includes post-secondary and graduate studies from Acadia University, Dalhousie University, the University of Ontario Institute of Technology and Trent University. Mr. Milne is our IB Biology instructor for grades 11 and 12 and our French Immersion Diploma Prep Science teacher. Beyond in-class instruction, he is involved with various initiatives within the school, including coaching soccer, basketball, and badminton and facilitating the Green Team Environmental Club and Chess Club. In addition, he supervises grade 11 and 12 IB Creativity, Activity and Service portfolios.

Hana Stephenson has been a member of our IB team since 2021. Ms. Stephenson brings a wealth of experience and knowledge from her studies at Charles University in Prague Czech Republic. Her responsibilities include IB Chemistry instructor for grades 11 and 12 and the senior girls' volleyball head coach.

Michael Jean is the IB Diploma Programme Coordinator for Cole Harbour District High School. Mr. Jean has been a member of the IB team since 2012 and has had various roles with the programme since then. Mr. Jean's academic background has focused on mathematics and applied sciences, most recently focusing on administrative educational leadership. His post-secondary and graduate studies include attending Acadia University, Brigham Young University, Drake University, Instructional Leadership Academy and the University of New Brunswick. Mr. Jean's responsibilities include IB Physics instructor for grades 11 and 12, Department Head of Mathematics & Sciences, Group 4 lead, CAS Coordinator and has coached numerous athletic and academic competition teams.

Group #5 - Mathematics:
Dave Peters, our mathematics teacher, brings our team an extensive mathematics and applied science background as a Dalhousie School of Engineering graduate. Mr. Peters has been a member of our team since our school's authorization as an IB World Diploma Program School. His teaching responsibilities include the in-person instruction of Year #1 and #2 Analysis & Approaches IB Mathematics and Nova Scotia Virtual School Applications & Interpretation for our province.

Group #6 - Art (Standard Level & High Level):
Ian Kaye is our year 1 and 2 Visual Arts Instructor. Ian Kaye graduated from Middlesex University as a Multimedia artist and has a long and varied background in visual art. He has worked within many disciplines and continues to develop his graphic language. Mr. Kaye’s vision for all his students is to inspire a creative and inquiring mind with a broad understanding of various media and techniques and their use. These are skills that can be honed and taken forward to develop a personal artistic practice that will continue to evolve. He encourages all his students to look closely at historical and contemporary contextual issues that will critically inform their work and how they respond to the world around them as eventual professional artists.
