Practices and Procedures

Morning Arrival & Drop-off Loop
This is by far the most challenging part of our school day and requires patience as well as a commitment to follow the expectations of drivers. Children arriving safely at school is our top priority.

• We encourage all families to use the bus system to limit congestion and confusion in the mornings and afternoons.

• The Drop-Off Loop is always for 1-way traffic. Do NOT enter the school property by lower or side exits. Patience as well as careful monitoring of the crosswalks is essential.

• Your child(ren) should exit on the left side of the car to avoid possible accidents or being caught between cars. Safety first please.

• In the Drop-Off Loop. NEVER pass a car as a child may be exiting and moving towards the sidewalk.

• In the Drop-Off Loop, NEVER park and get out of your vehicle to assist your child out…if your child needs help, find a parking spot and help them. This avoids the blocking and slowing of traffic.

• Hugs, kisses, and goodbyes need to happen at home so that traffic continues to flow easily

Absenteeism and Late Arrival

Please make every effort to have your child attend school on time every day. When a child is or has been absent from school for any reason, we ask that parents/guardians notify the school. If your child arrives late at school (after the 8:00 bell), he/she is to report to the office for a late slip before going to class.

End of Day Routines|
Parents & guardians are required to write in their student's back and forth communication notebook any changes in end of day plans OR email the teacher directly. The office will take calls for the unexpected changes that occur.

Food Programs

• Breakfast Baskets in each classroom will continue so students will be able to have something to eat in the morning if they are hungry when they arrive at school. (Apples, milk, cheese and a granola bar).

• Our cafeteria offers a single menu item at lunch time for $4.50, we will send the links  through SchoolMessenger for online ordering.

• Most students will continue to eat in the classroom, so if your child orders from the cafeteria, it will be delivered to the classroom.

• Please pack/provide a reusable water bottle whenever possible.

Illness at School

• Every year as part of your back-to-school planning, we ask families to have a timely premade plan in case your child must leave school early, whether due to illness or an unplanned Early Dismissal.

• It is also important that we have up-to-date contact information for you and your child’s emergency contact person. Please know that students will not be penalized for staying home when they are sick, have any COVID-19 symptoms, or have been advised by 811 to stay home.

School Fees or Bulk Purchasing Fees
As a school we will continue our normal practice to provide all needed school supplies for students throughout the year for a $35.00 fee. You may send that in at any time. Recognizing the effects of our current situation on family finances we ask that families contact us at the office to problem solve. We are here to help.

School Routines

Our regular emergency preparedness plans continue as they normally would. Throughout the year, we will practice emergency procedures such as routine fire drills, hold and secure drills, and lock-down drills.

Bus Notes
For a student to ride on a bus, for special reasons, a bus note must be made up by the office and presented to the driver at the end of the day. A note from the student’s parents/guardians must be brought into the office and will be attached to the note. The bus note can be picked up at the office at the end of the day, prior to bus departure. Students are also expected to follow the rules of the bus and can have their privileges suspended should their actions prove to be unacceptable.

Volunteers

Volunteers are an invaluable asset to the school community. Whether chaperoning, coaching, or helping with student transportation to extra-curricular events, all is greatly appreciated.

Any parent MUST complete a Criminal Record Check and be screened through the Vulnerable Sector Check before they can volunteer. These forms are available at the school office. These checks must be renewed every three years.

Peanut Smart School
We have several students in our school with severe peanut allergies (Anaphylaxis). We ask that you help us keep these students safe by not bringing products containing peanuts into the school. Classrooms with children who suffer from anaphylaxis will be closely monitored.

Lost and Found
A Lost and Found section is in the main foyer. After a reasonable period of time, items not claimed will be donated to charity.

Newsletter, School Messenger

Aldershot Elementary School will send home newsletters with important dates and events. Also, copies of each newsletter will be placed on the school’s website. Texts and emails will also be sent out as reminders of up-coming events.
