The Content Creation Lab (CCL) is a program of Global Nomads Group. At CCL, we create original learning experiences by youth, for youth. We believe young people know best how to make education more engaging, meaningful, and impactful for their global peers. Every year, CCL interns ages 11-25 work together on virtual teams to design courses on important topics ranging from climate change to mental health. These courses reach over 10,000 youth in over 65 countries per year!
This semester, CCL designers are creating a virtual exchange experience about Overcoming Bias in AI. There are three main parts you'll be designing:
Online Course: The course will be hosted on our youth-designed online learning platform (where you took the Overcoming Bias course.) It will have three modules, each including content (text, images, and video) as well as assignments for students.
Virtual Live Events: In 2025, we will host virtual live events for youth in the Middle East, North Africa (MENA) and the United States who take the online course.
Social Media Campaign: To spread the word about the course and live events, we’ll be designing a social media campaign about the project invite hundreds youth from the US and MENA to take part in the exchange.
What will I actually be doing?
The work in this internship changes week to week, and a lot of it depends on your team’s design decisions! In general, you can plan to take part in team meetings, all-teams meetings, and individual or small-group work outside of meetings. Check out our CCL calendar for upcoming meetings and due dates, and our CCL To Do List for specific assignments.
You'll be assigned to one of four teams, each led by two youth Team Leaders. Every week, you'll meet with your team to work on your piece of the project. (Your team will decide on a meeting time that works best for the group.) Three of the teams will be designing the online course. The fourth team will be designing the live events and the social media campaign.
We will have eight All Teams Meetings during the semester, held on Saturdays. These usually include training sessions on topics like curriculum design, accessibility, video production, and social media. These meetings are also a way for us to coordinate work among different teams and make decisions about the project together.
You will also have some individual or small-group work in between your team meetings. This can include research, creating content, or giving feedback on each other’s work. Your team will decide how you want to share these assignments among your teammates. You will also complete a brief check-in survey every week.
Artificial intelligence (AI) is transforming how we work, socialize, and share information. Because AI is created by humans, it often reflects human biases and replicates them on a massive scale, deepening social divisions and inequalities. We believe it’s important to understand how bias is built into AI models, and how we can use AI to overcome bias, not deepen it. You as designers will decide how to build and share this knowledge with youth around the world!
The program Overcoming Bias in AI is implemented by Global Nomads Group and is supported by the J. Christopher Stevens Virtual Exchange Initiative (JCSVEI). JCSVEI is a U.S. Department of State’s Bureau of Educational and Cultural Affairs program administered by the Aspen Institute.
