Hello parents and students,
We know there are a lot of options for earning college credit in high school, and it can get confusing. To support the classroom conversations you've had with your teachers, I've put together a clear breakdown of our three main programs—AP, RACC Dual Enrollment, and Alvernia Dual Enrollment—including costs and deadlines.
1. AP Exams (for College Credit)
This is the standard option for students taking an AP class. You can earn college credit by taking the official AP exam and getting a qualifying score.
Approved courses: any AP course offered at GMHS
Registration Deadline: Registration is completed by students through their My AP Classroom. The registration deadline is October 17, 2025.
Exam Dates: Exams are offered between the dates of May 4th May 15th.
Cost: Each exam costs $90 (standard rate). For those who qualify for the reduced rate, the exam cost is $53. (New this year - AP Seminar and AP Research exams no longer cost more than the other AP exams.)
Payment Deadline: The payment deadline is November 14, 2025.
Payment Note: Exams must be paid for by November 14th, or they will be canceled. If you need a payment plan or more time, please email me at kimberly.murray@gmsd.org to make arrangements.

2. RACC Dual Enrollment
This option allows students to earn actual college credit through Reading Area Community College (RACC) while taking an approved high school class (taught by a GMHS teacher). The credit is awarded by RACC based on your yearly grade. A grade of C or higher must be obtained to earn the college credit, and this grade will be included in your college transcript. The course credit value is 3, with exceptions noted in the list below.
Approved Classes: AP Biology (8 credits), AP Chemistry (8 credits), AP English Language & Composition, AP Seminar, AP English Literature, AP Environmental Science, AP US History (6 credits), AP European History, AP Statistics, AP Calculus AB, AP Calculus BC, AP Physics I, AP Physics II, AP Government & Politics, AP Psychology, Honors Precalculus, Spanish IV (Note: We are waiting to hear back from RACC about AP Computer Science Principles. If that course is approved, Mr. Forry will let students and parents know.)
Registration Deadline: The deadline to register is October 1, 2025.
Cost: The cost is $99 per credit.
Where to pay: RACC will email a bill to the student and parent(s) once the registration process is complete. Payments are made directly to RACC.
