I am writing to inform all junior parents of the changes that have taken place with state required testing. As many of you are aware, the state did not have a budget for schools until recently. As a result of the new budget, the state has decided to take PARCC testing away at the high school level and we will now be giving the SAT. This is a huge breakthrough for our state. This test will be at no cost to your student and will be required of all juniors. The test will be giving on a set date and all juniors will need to be in attendance as per state requirement. The test date that is mandated is April 13, 2021.
In addition, since the current seniors did not test in the spring due to COVID, they will be taking a mandatory SAT test on October 14, 2020. This is required for graduation purposes.
Any student that plans on attending college, including ICC, will be able to use these SAT scores for college admissions. They will not need to go and take the ACT on their own as the SAT is accepted by colleges across the state and country. However, if your student decides to go take the ACT in addition to the SAT because they are not pleased with their scores, they are more than welcome to. To register for the ACT, please visit http://www.actstudent.org. To register for the SAT, please visit http://sat.org/register. ICC has created SAT prep courses for juniors to prepare them for the new test. If a student is interested in these, please see the below flyer for more information.
Because of these changes, I am going to do my best to help the students with this process as much as possible. We will be doing SAT practice throughout the year to start to prepare students for this testing. As I get more information and available test dates besides the one offered at the school, I will get them posted.
