The ACYO invites students in grades 6-12 to audition for the orchestra. Auditions will be held on August 25, 2025 in the UF School of Music. If you are unable to attend auditions or are sick, please contact Dr. Graham dregraham@gmail.com to make alternate arrangements.

WIND AUDITIONS INCLUDE: A short solo piece, or portion thereof, demonstrating the student’s musical and technical ability. FBA grade 4 minimum (grade 5 or 6 preferred), or you may play your All State audition music and Major scales and arpeggios in the following keys on your instrument: C,F, B-flat, E-flat, A-flat, G,D,A, and E.
PERCUSSION AUDITIONS INCLUDE: A short prepared piece on one of the following: snare drum, tympani or mallet instrument, representative of the student’s musical and technical ability, or you may play your All State audition music. Knowledge of basic rudiments, stick technique, etc. (bring all necessary sticks and mallets to the audition).

Students must be enrolled at a public school, private school, public charter school, home education music cooperative, or virtual school. In addition, the student must be a regularly participating member in the appropriate middle school band from that school and sponsored by the Active FMEA/FBA member teacher from that school.

Students MUST be a current member of their middle school band program to be eligible to audition. Audition application forms and fees are due to your director by Saturday, November 1st. Late forms and fees will not be accepted. Audition application forms can be obtained through your middle school director.
The University of South Florida School of Music hosts an annual “Symphonic Celebration” in April each year. This Festival features two middle school concert bands nominated by band directors, from public and private schools throughout Florida. Each year the festival invites guest conductors from around the United States to direct the groups. During their time, students will experience a multitude of concerts, masterclasses, and clinics hosted by USF's School of Music faculty.

FLORIDA 7-STAR HONOR BAND
Students must be enrolled and active in the Kanapaha Band Program as a member in good standing (grades, achievement, attitude, participation). In addition, the student must have performed a Solo at this year's S&E event and at MPA in their band class(es). This is for 7th grade students ONLY and the fee (if selected) is free, however, you must cover your own hotel expenses (2 nights).
