Symphonic Band Auditions

Symphonic Band Audition Information

For the 2026-2027 school year, GHS will continue to offer a Symphonic Band and Concert Band.  Any student new to the GHS Program will automatically be placed into the Concert Band.  However, all students, new and current, are encouraged to audition for the GHS Symphonic Band.  The only difference between the two ensembles will be the difficulty level that the bands play.  Symphonic Band will mainly play grade 5 and 6 literature while the Concert Band will primarily play grade 3 and 4 literature.  Students in both bands will earn honors credit, particpate in concerts and perform at Concert MPA's.

Any incoming 9th grader that would like to audition for Symphonic Band should prepare the music below.  You will then need to come to GHS on either May 12th or May 14th from 4:00-5:00 PM to do an in person audition with Mr. Pirzer.  It is best to email Mr. Pirzer @ pirzerb@gm.sbac.edu ahead of time to let him know you are planning on stopping by for an audition.   Please prepare both the Audition Excerpt for your instrument as well as the Chromatic, C, F and Bb Concert Scales from the scale sheet below.  

What about percussion?  All of our percussion students will be placed into our 5th Period Percussion Class.  New percussion students should plan to attend our percussion/drum line nights on May 12, 14 and 19 from 5:30-7:30 PM.  Here we will determine which students will be on drum line and which students will be in the front ensemble.  All percussion students will have a home with us, we just need to determine the best fit for you :)
