What is DECA?

DECA is a Career and Technical Service Organization (CTSO) that is associated with the Academy of Entrepreneurship that prepares emerging leaders and entrepreneurs for careers in marketing, finance, hospitality and management in high schools and colleges around the world. All Academy members are automatically enrolled into the DECA program, which gives them access to webinars, professional speakers, competition, career resources, and so much more! Attending DECA Conferences is frequently cited as students favorite part of being in the Academy, and we encourage all members to compete with DECA to showcase their business skills and receive international recognition.

DECA Competition

DECA offers over 50 event categories from students can select. Speaking with an advisor or a DECA officer can help students make a decision that can lead to greater success and enjoyment.

Testing/Role Play - students take one of six tests (Principles, Marketing, Hospitality, Finance, Entrepreneurship or Financial Literacy) and engage in a judged problem solving role play either individually or in a team.
Professional Selling - students take either a Marketing, Hospitality or Finance test and are judged in a prepared selling situation based on selected topic.
Entrepreneurship Written Events - students prepare a business plan in varying degrees of depth.
Integrated Marketing Campaign - students prepare a marketing plan for a product, service or event.
Business Operations Research - students work with a business to conduct market research and generate a plan based on results of their research.
Chapter Projects - These are large, year long products completed by selected advanced students. All students will participate in these events throughout the year.
Online Simulations - students may elect to participate in an online simulation competition through Knowledge Matters.

Learn more about these events here. Teachers are always willing to help! Start asking EARLY!! The sooner preparations begin, the better. Events will be selected in class in September with district testing in December. The top 3 participants in each event at districts progress to the state conference. At the state competition, students face over 3,000 state DECA members to reach ICDC with nearly 20,000 competitors from around the world. Participating in this elite competition is an inspiring experience that puts students in the company of the best in the world.
