Vertical  Sea-can Garden

A community member donated a 40-foot vertical farm greenhouse to Oilfields High School. The fresh produce will bring plenty of fresh produce and fruit to the school and for sale within the community. Any funds raised from the sea can sales will be used for school programming.  Produce can be grown all year including microgreens and fresh varieties of fruits and vegetables.

The vertical farm sea can is environmentally controlled system that controls oxygen, carbon dioxide levels, humidity, and temperature which creates the perfect growing environment where there are no bugs, weeds, fungi and efficiently uses water.  Over time, we would like to reduce the power with solar panels and include a software that shows up on an app to update us on the growth.

The goal of the project is to establish prototype training and support for students based on skills needed for a sustainable future while ensuring we have the freshest possible produce with the highest nutritional value as independently as we can.

The project may evolve to include a partnership between Old’s College and St. Mary’s University.

The excitement is rising. Our sea can has arrived we are in the process of hooking up the water and power.  The students are developing ideas for the art work, computer software, and testing what it is like to have their own crop.
