Dear GJS Community,
Welcome to what promises to be an exciting new academic year! We are thrilled to start this journey with all of you. We hope summer has been meaningful, enriching, and filled with memorable moments for all. We have been working hard to get ready for the new school year, starting with a successful orientation week for new hires. All new staff members have shown incredible commitment and a positive attitude, setting a wonderful tone for the year ahead. The leadership team and HR department have done a commendable job providing all the necessary tools and resources for our new faculty members, including myself, to develop a comprehensive understanding of the GJS community, its values, beliefs, strengths, and areas for growth. We are ready to join the returning faculty on Monday to complete our transition into this dynamic and inspiring community.
First Day of School
GJS is always in motion, constantly evolving and engaging in new learning opportunities to grow and celebrate. We are looking forward to welcoming all our students on Monday, August 5, for the first day of school. The day has been meticulously designed to give our secondary students a glimpse of what the academic year holds. See below for a few logistical points to keep in mind:
The West gate will open for students at 07:00.
Advisors will send a welcoming email next week, informing students where to go for the introductory part of the orientation day and providing a brief layout for the day.
After an extended advisory session, students will have the opportunity to visit different classrooms and meet the teachers who will guide them through this year's learning journey. They will also continue to develop positive relationships with their classmates, both returning and new, showcasing the true colors of our student body.
The day will conclude with our first assembly, where we will continue building community and reflect on how we will walk this path together as a family.
Students are expected to attend wearing their uniforms. You can review the guidelines in our Parents/Students Handbook. Please take the time to read and discuss this document with your child in preparation for the school year.
Teachers will begin contacting you next week via your school-issued Google account. If you are having trouble accessing your school Google account (@student.globaljaya.com), please contact Pak Zul (zulkahfi@globaljaya.com).
Other Highlights of the Month
New Families Induction Day: On August 1, we will welcome our new families during Induction Day. The day will provide opportunities for both students and parents to learn about the culture of GJS, as well as answer basic questions in preparation for the first day of school. We will start with a general introduction, after which participants will be divided into more specific groups to develop a clearer and more concise picture of who will be guiding them through the school year.
Celebration of Achievement: On Friday, August 9, we will pause to celebrate the academic achievements from Semester 2 of the 2023-24 year, reminding us that hard work always pays off.
WWW Informative Sessions for Parents: You will soon receive an invitation to attend the WWW parent meetings for Years 7 to 10, another invaluable and exciting component of our holistic program.
iReady: Our first round of this diagnostic test will run from August 12 to 23. You will receive more detailed information regarding schedules and logistics for this testing session. The data collected will be used to identify strengths and areas for growth to inform early planning stages.
National Celebration: Our first whole-school celebration will be held around Independence Day on August 19, with the Upacara in the morning, followed by an afternoon of traditional games, marking our first House competitions.
As you can see, we have started the school year full of energy and have been busy planning an engaging and meaningful experience for all members of our community. It is my absolute honor to join this vibrant school, and I am grateful for this opportunity. Please come visit me—I am eager to learn as much as possible about the GJS ways and culture, and your expertise and opinions will play an important role in my own learning journey.
Here's to a fantastic year ahead!
Warm regards,
