Dear GJS New and Returning Families,
On behalf of our GJS Faculty and Staff, I like to extend a very warm welcome to all our new and returning students and their families. It is my pleasure to formally welcome you to Kontak, our monthly newsletter, to welcome you to our community, and to wish your families a wonderful school experience through the 2021-2022 school year.
In this edition, apart from my welcome message to the community, you will find a section dedicated to presenting and storing information relevant to our Home-Based Learning (HBL) Efforts and Supporting student success, an introduction to our newest faculty members as well as start-up news for Primary and Secondary Schools will be highlighted. This HBL section continues to serve as a point of reference, even between issues of the Kontak, providing information and support to parents as we engage with HBL efforts to start this new academic year.
In just a few short days, we launch the 2021-2022 academic year. We know that eventually, the COVID-19 pandemic will be controlled to the point where students and staff will be allowed back onto campus thus initiating a return to face-to-face teaching and learning. While we will be engaging with Home-Based Learning to start the year, we continue to prepare and plan for eventual Blended and On-Campus models.
We have updated our Return to Campus Plan: Blended Learning 2021-2022, available for viewing below or for download through this LINK. In particular, the section relating to Covid Contact Tracing, Covid Testing, Quarantine and Isolation has been significantly updated in light of changing national and local guidelines. We will keep you updated with regards to the information that informs our current situation or that helps prepare our community for the transition to one of the other scenarios outlined.

During our induction program, we have welcomed two new faculty, and four new/returning staff onto our GJS team. Our newest team members originate from El Salvador and Indonesia. These faculty members bring with them professional expertise, experience and unique talents that will contribute positively to our evolving educational community. They each have welcoming messages to share on the New GJS Faculty Bios page. Please take a moment to meet our newest community members.
In addition to welcoming our new faculty and staff members for the 2021-2022 school year, we have also enrolled a total of 74 new students, representing 63 families, so far for the upcoming academic year. Next week we will be holding new student induction programs, followed closely by new parent orientation sessions, at both the primary and secondary levels. These critical events support our newest members by introducing our administrative and curricular leaders, providing insight into our educational practices, as well as clarifying our day to day procedures here at Global Jaya School. All parents are asked to review the Primary and Secondary Kontak Pages for full details on dates, times and access information to our upcoming induction events.
To start the new year, we have also refreshed our Global Jaya School website. This site serves as the first point of call for interested families and potential professional faculty as they seek to learn more about our students, programmes, school, and community. For returning families, our main mechanisms of information distribution continue to be through Managebac, through KONTAK, through our social media platforms and WhatsApp. Thank you to the efforts from our IT Team, Community Liason Team, Leadership and faculty in the development, review and publication of our new school site. Please take a moment to check out the new design locates at our usual website location: www.globaljaya.com
Finally, please find our Updated 2021-2022 Academic Calendar available for viewing below or for download through this LINK. The update was a result of changed National Holidays dates for Islamic New Year in August and the Prophet's Birthday in October.
To repeat, we are excited to begin the 2021-2022 school year, reconnecting and continuing our collaboration with our entire community to ensure a great start to the school year!
