Annie Atkins actually did a talk In Bangor which I was in attendance, she gave some insight into what it's like to work on a film set, how different film industries specialise in different sorts of films. Every Second film according to Annie Atkins in Germany is about the second world war. In Ireland a huge amount of their dramas and movies are about older times such as medieval, viking era stories. So a lot of countries have their own niche speciality.
She made graphic design sound really fun, the props she had designed looked really creative and interesting. There were some maps, some letters, some fake Imperial stamps, pink boxes with their own little branding on them. they're all quite pretty and just really interesting to look at. I felt really inspired to do some work after I'd seen them.
She mentions 'Hero Props' and how she think they're really.really important to stories and as these visual elements you see, think you don't care about. but if they weren't there, the film wouldn't feel real. The same thing goes for the actors, with the props assisting these actors into being transported into this world, since the props feel real, so that can counter act the fact there's a camera in their face and the fact that there's a bunch of people stranding around in Super-dry coats on a medieval set off camera with a hot cup of coffee in their hands.
In movies, They never actually use things such as real newspapers, mug shots or maps, so they always have to hire a graphic designer to come in and do work for them so there's a very large industry for that sort of work.
Ronan Devlin is a Uk Based artist who specialises in light-show type displays. On his website he talks about his work as being on some sort of emotional crossroads and that his art feels spiritual and abstract. Massively varying from person to person sort of like seeing things in clouds or seeing things in the dancing flames of a campfire. I feel like his work probably is very aesthetically pleasing in person, I'm sure it's like seeing an artificial aurora borealis
While Rolan's work doesn't really speak to me that much, I have come across a few maps with northern lights worked into it and some diagrams which show how they're made and where they appear, along with also digging into research on the experience of seeing the northern lights with your own eyes. It sounds beautiful and It may be a sort of touching stone for me to come back to, to explore further in the future.
Made this in chester when I was feeling depressed and bored to pass the time, I decided that writing about how sad I was over some papers in my pocket and sketching over them would make time fly by. It did.
Made Before 'I Feel Bad'. It's me trying to teach myself guitar, then I revisited it. sketched a few visuals, then unrelated visuals and words. then got sad and wrote very self depricating and demeaning things all over it to bring myself down a bit more about how I'd fallen in Love with someone who'd never Love me in return.
